A NEW SubC 2019?
A NEW SubC 2019?
This has been talked about when it comes to predictions for 2019. Now it's been said also that the low supply of subs could be due to a new model about to be released. What would this do to the value of the 116610? It angers people when I ask about future value but I'm about to buy a Near New SubC from a seller at MSRP and just thought I'd think about the possible future. |

No one knows when but it will happen and the new movement is certainly fantastic.

I do wonder/worry about the value but it's hard to imagine the price of a Rolex especially a sub going down.

Ain't gonna happen. If it does it should be in pm and preferably platinum first.

The one prediction I can make with absolute certainty is that if/when they do announce a new sub,
1) The waiting list will be 5+ years 2) Your friends (aka dealers) will gobble up 95% of the supply and drive secondary market prices to new all-time highs Enjoy!

Your old reference will probably double in value when no one can get the new reference that sells on the secondary for 20k. Or the bubble will burst.

A NEW SubC 2019?
If it’s both a design and movement change, your (future) 116610 will go up in value.
If it’s a movement change only, I don’t see your 116610 going up in value. Unless the new 216610 (let’s call it that) is drastically more expensive or more scarce, I don’t see people rushing to get the exact same Sub with a worse movement (yours). It is clear that Rolex is in a transition period, meaning, some watches are equipped with the new movement, some aren’t. If you can wait, I would. Wait at least four months — you’ll be better informed then (Basel 2019). Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

And wait you say? To make a possible huge mistake? No way. It's the age of the 'can't sit still' Internet generation. I'm going to most likely pick up the sub. If I don't I might not see another like it. |

Stupid question but what happens to all the people on a wait list for a 116610 or even have a deposit on a 116610 if a new sub comes out.

The movement change will go first to the Sub PM models before it trickles down to the SS.
I wouldn’t worry about the price. For now, buy the current model and enjoy the timepiece. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Rolex SS sports models are nowhere to be found at AD’s and we are here talking about future iterations of a watch that’s basically nonexistent. Man... we are brainwashed :Banghead:

Today Rolex do not make watches as today they are just thought of as little more than £££££$$$$$$$$$$.

Honestly when everyone buys a Rolex is the very first thing people think about is resell value? This should be a hobby for everyone and with hobbies financial numbers are usually meaningless.
If it is you might want to ask yourself 1) Are you really buying the watch for yourself to enjoy 2) Do you really like the watch your considering to buy 3) Can you actually afford this watch With so many people asking the same question over and over and over I truly am curious whether people could answer yes to all 3 of the above. |

If they fix the inexplicable fat lugs the perceived 'correction' many would welcome will precipitate a maxicase bloodbath, where there is a mass sell off and no one will want the one with the fat lugs, the 'on-the-fencers' who like the bracelet will have all the assurance they need that the rest of the watch is in fact not very appealing and it will never be spoken of again. Like the Day Date II.

Sooner or later, an updated Submariner will be released. Could be this year, or next, or perhaps five years from now. Do you really want to wait if it is a few more years? And, when a new Submariner model is released, what’s to say you will like the changes made? By way of example, many members prefer the older case (5 digit) vs. maxi case (6 digit). Point being, if you like the currently released Submariner and can source one at a reasonable price, suggest you get it. |

I would believe that at some point it will occur. Straight speculation on values.

Low supply of Subs? I ordered one and got it this year. I can't get on a list for Sky Dwellers or Daytonas, and the SS BLRO might as well not exist. Using this logic, this indicates that the low supply of these models means they are being discontinued. Which as we know, is highly unlikely.
We'll know when we know. There's nothing wrong with wistful thinking but nobody is going to have definitive proof. Value isn't important to me, but past trends indicate that discontinued Subs retain strong value. Which is a nice feeling to have about a watch you love, even if you don't intend to cash in. |

If you can grab a Sub from an AD, do it now. With the market lately a new release Sub likely won’t be available for a long time anyways. No one can predict future value, buy what you like and move on.

I’m guessing for the 70th anniversary year.
Also, although it’s been mentioned here before, I don’t think a platinum Sub would be that wearable with the case back shape. IMO and my |

In my opinion, if you like something get it. These are mass produced luxury goods. Watches, just like cars there will always be a new model with all the bells and whistles come out unless the model is completely discontinued (very unlikely in a Sub) or the brand dies out (even more unlikely). Honestly an extended power reserve doesn’t do much for me. If you’re always wearing it then there should be no need for a 70 hr reserve, and if you rotate often with 4+ watch collection a 70 hr reserve will be flat anyway by the time I get back to the watch. My DaytonaC is always in need of a full wind when I get back to wearing it.
