Back home in India, it was normal "culture" to comment on a person's watch, shoes, jewellery, etc. and it was accepted in good humour.
Here in NZ, I've seen people throw subtle glances at my Rolex watches, but they just keep mum about it. So comments on your personal possessions would vary from culture to culture. JJ

That's just the way it is, the only people who will notice it are other people with an interest in watches, and in the grand scheme of things there are really very few of us, and most other people don't care, or notice what is on you wrist.

If you're wearing a great time piece and meet someone who is also then I think that's the perfect time to talk about watches. At that moment, the two of you are in the same club and it's a great time to talk shop. In fact, those are some of the most fun moments because they only happen occasionally.

Only my close friends comment on my Rolex, and they are watch aficionados as well.
We tend to notice others' watches just because we are WIS's. It's much the same way with my wife who's into bags and she notices other ladies' Louis Vuittons and she'll tell me the exact model, size, and history of that piece. |

What sux is that I was at a car dealership, and I saw a salesman with a YMII and I complimented him on his watch and he didn't think too much of it. He thought my SS Sub was nicer. I asked him if he boated, and he said no and it was his company that gave him the watch. That was sad, he didn't seem to be a WIS even with such a nice timepiece.

As mentioned above, most could care less about watches. An those who do (like me) see so many Omega SMP's and Rolex Subs that I tend to hardly notice them.

HI Mike
Trust me just because you didnt get many compliments on your sub doesnt mean they didnt notice you sporting a new rolie. I think in general if someone happens to spot your watch they will try to figure out what it is. Also when it gets warm out your sub looks great with jeans and t-shirt! |

Agreed. I certainly don't make a comment to each and every person I see wearing a Rolex. |

You don't have to flash a Rolex, a month ago while eating at a mess facility here in Iraq I noticed another younger guy looking my way (at my watch) and I caught him mumble to his friend that he has one but he keeps his at home (back in the U.S.of A.).
I continued eating and enjoyed every minute while I wore my LV, I figure I'm going to enjoy it one way or another so why not here in Iraq? |
