So are the Titanium models desirable?
I have been doing a lot of research and it appears to my newbie eyes that the Titanium models are not as hot as the SS?
Is this true and if so why? I can see the advantages to having Titanium in a timepiece this large. Weight and comfort would seem to be nicer with this metal. Educate me here.

To me, they have a more casual look to them vs. the SS models. My golf instructor sports one on the OEM rubber and I think it look great on her.

Mine is titanium 240, I agree with the OP, the weight is definitely lighter than a full SS 44mm model. I will admit I do miss the bling factor of my 88, but still titanium is great if you don't want hairline scratches to show on the watch.

I like mine. They just have fewer models.

Great guys. But do they hold their values or are they more like the Rolex Cellini's?

I like the Ti models as I fear beating up and knicking the shiny SS
finish. Seems most of the ones I like are in the SS though. I have avoided the Rolex GMT TTc due to the polished center links

I have Titanium 177 - it holds up well. I bought mine in 2004 and from what I can tell - it has gained some pretty good value - I think I paid $3,800 for it. Now I think it is something like $5,600.
It holds up well to scratches and it is lighter. But, you have to like the look. It is less blingy and could be considered more casual. That being said - to differentiate from my 177ti - my next PAM will not be Ti. More than likely SS unless Santa brings me White Gold or Platinum but, that is highly unlikey as I heard he lost all of his money in a huge ponzi scheme in New York... Some guy named Madoff? I don't know. Anyway, get what you like! If that is ti... then so be it and enjoy it! I love mine. Now with new straps it's like a new watch!

Basically it is lighter and more satiny.
If you like that Ti is for you Richard. Both hold their value well!!!!! If I were going the bracelet route, I'd get the Ti for sure, but I actually like the heft of the SS model, which is why I went 111 or 177. So what did you try on the other day at the AD?????

In the historic line you have the 176 (Base) and 177 (Marina). There are also other automatic models both on bracelet and strap. 240 and others, not sure of the numbers.

I may have missed a couple but following is a list of Titanium models released thus far: regular editions - 25, 55, 56, 61, 116, 117, 118, 176, 177, 240, 279, 282, 283
Special Editions - 36, 40, 60, 76, 82, 168, 202, 222, 225, 309, 322 To answer your question, given the sheer quantity of choices it is a safe assumption that Ti Panerai are popular. Else why the new additions to the line year in and year out? |
