BLNR Commanding Higher Premiums At TS

Checking DavidSW website I see three BLNRs and seems he has risen prices on these lately. Depending on stickers and warranty they are going for 11.4k at the low end all the way up to 12.7K on the high end.

That is against expectations. I always thought users would sell their current model in anticipation of the newer one with the new movement and dial.

What a great market this is. Some watches are just too coveted.

Seems about right with the price in the UK between 9.9K GBP and 11.5K GBP they are commanding higher premiums over here too

people are crazy if they are paying those prices for a BLNR.

13k gets you into the AP field.

BLNR is always in hot demand. Clearly shows which GMT people prefer!

The thing is not many people want AP or are crazy about it.

Not so fast. I think that the BLRO earns that title. Still a ways off.

No one knows if/when the BLNR will be updated. Sure there are rumors, there are also rumors it will be discontinued. I suspect these rumors are helped by people who are trying to shift the price up or down lol.
I don't think we should assume the price from a grey for "new, unworn" is affected by whether or not current owners are trying to flip or trade. The 'new, unworn" price is set first, and then if Grey gets three used BLRN he'll sell them BELOW the top dollar. If I'm a grey and I get three BLNR in trade, I am NOT going to see this as a reason to lower the price of the two "new, unworn" that i'm selling.

I agree with what you are saying but I am not sure where all this fits in dictating the rising prices for the BLNR. There is obviously a strong market here where demand is outstripping supply. I rmember not long ago the low end of the watches was going for under 10K, now it is up by about 1.5K. Similarly, a new unworn BLNR was never to be seen flirting with 13K in 2017 or early 2018.

I’m not surprised at all. Christmas is just around the corner, there’s still (obviously) a shortage of desirable SS models and demand is still really high. Anyway, a few hundred dollars on a $10-12,000 Watch is really not significant. I wouldn’t buy any luxury item if a small percentage increase was going to negatively impact me.

I remember when there used to be rows of BLNR in dealer store with at least 10% discount when I purchased by SubC.....

AP doesn't matter if someone is into Rolex.

Same for the PM argument if someone is into SS.

These are pieces of jewelry. People fall in love with what they fall in love with. There is no logic to it and no substitute for it. If someone is completely zoned-in on the BLNR they only want a BLNR and that is the end of that.

As for prices, why would they go down? GMT is a terrific watch, the BLNR is a Top 5 Rolex in the looks-department, and the demand for SS Sport models is showing no signs of regressing.

It’s been years since I’ve seen a desirable AP for 13k. Those days are gone.

My point continues to be missed. Everybody calling bubble and you saying why would prices go down, as if they are just barely holding.

Prices are going UP !! let´s smell the coffee. And this is happenning in the wake of a stable Rolex MSRP environment what happens when Rolex raises prices ? This is a classic example of arguing with a market tape when things clearly show prices on the rise.

Spot on ... TS’s will almost always push the limit to
see what someone is willing to fork over of their hard
earned cash for a presumptuous desired reference...

Madness, I tell you !!!! Simply madness !!!!
I had one but at those prices TT sports models
and even the LN GMT looks more attractive...
I’d pay maybe.a $500 premium over any model
as one would normally pay tax ... That’s it !!!
As far as I’m concerned any pre-owned modern reference
model selling for $1K above msrp can sit in the safe,
shelf or display ... Not my money ...

At what point do you stop the bleeding?
BNIB grey dealer prices ? Same maybe $500 to $1K
as tax would normally be paid if purchasing locally
from AD...

AP markets are crazy now. I recall the day when I looked at all modern RO models, including Ultrathin. All were available from the AD for sale at MSRP. Did not buy because could get the same models from TS for 25% off. Well, not for the Ultrathin, but I did not have $23K on me.

Right now AP's moving toward boutique model, so the same "shortage" rule applies. You'll be lucky to get 10% off for the basic steel models.

I agree, the blro will fall to or below the blnr once the novelty of the new release wears off.

I think the oyster is more widely accepted than the jubilee bracelet on the sport models.

I don´t believe this line of reasoning respectfully. Greys are in the business of selling watches. No rotation no profit no business. They will price watches accordingly and will buy them at prices that ensure a margin. Then you have a bid and offer price. The bid price is such that a small profit is ensured to a flipper if he buys at MSRP plus tax.

Can’t wait for Rolex to update the movement in the GMTs so the prices on the old ones will drop back closer to MSRP. Don’t know if they’re going too, but it would be nice.

Not really. Take one of those BLNR´s for example at close to 12K. Let´s say it is not new but mint with about three years warranty in the card left. That means you kept it for two years and bought it for about 9K tax included two years ago. You´d probably be offered about 10K so the grey makes 1.5K.

That is about the way the deal goes down.

Why wouldn't you? If someone buys a watch for $10k then clearly the market will bear $10k. Why not list the next one for $10.5k? Or $11k? Don't forget most of these guys will entertain offers, so if you're listing it at $11k and you get an offer at $10k, you still might consider taking it.

I don't see why you'd list the next one at the same price as the one you've already sold. Prices should only go down if inventory is sitting for an extremely long period of time.

Could send them up even higher if the demand is strong enough. An update or new movement means a lot of people will get back on the list, which means it becomes less possible to buy one at retail. When something isn't available at retail it drives the price of the used models up.

You seem to be assuming that a lot of older BLNRs would hit the used market if an update is announced. I doubt that many buyers are going to unload their watches before they get the new one (otherwise they might have to sit without one for a year or two), so older models will only become available at whatever rate Rolex trickles out the updated versions. And that's assuming there aren't some collectors happy to sit on two of them (plenty of people have an old and a new Pepsi, although I admit there'd be much less difference between an old and a new BLNR).

I think it's more likely for Rolex to discontinue the current BLNR than update it, personally. Maybe it will come back in a few years if they make major design changes to the reference.

Not surprised in the least. Would be news if they were slashing prices, but that ain’t gonna happen. At least anytime soon.
