This means you are ahead of the curve and have impeccable taste. Rolex Everose is not pink and is in another league compared to the typical pink rose gold most people think of. Rolex adds platinum to theirs giving it a forever lasting color the entire way through the metal.
It is not a effeminate color. It stands out from the crowd without being loud. I wasn’t into yellow gold anymore but the Everose was the only PM that had me lusting after another PM Rolex. Since its GMT introduction, it is only a matter of time till it is seen on the Sub.

Has anybody recently been able to get 20% off a DD from an AD? I feel like that gets thrown around like it’s almost a sure thing, but does it actually happen? Especially now?

That’s lower than the typical grey price.

Can’t say I can give much advice because I’m not even close to being in your position, but if you’re financially stable and responsible and you’ve set yourself up for a moment like this, then you deserve it!

The trick is to first buy a couple of cheaper watches as you have, after a while you consolidate a few of those, add a little extra and all the sudden you bought a DD without hesitation. I think that is how many of us do it. At least I am, about to do that tomorrow.. getting something that is almost x3 the price of my second most expensive watch probably.

I couldn’t agree more! If I didn’t love cars and buy some of the cars I had in the past 15 years I would have saved a lot of money. I don’t mind spending that sort of money on a Rolex especially used when I know I am just tying up the funds rather owning a depreciating asset.

A 36mm DD can be had for a fraction of the price of the newer model. I let the first buyer take the depreciation and purchased mine used. It was not a compromise for me as I prefer traditionally sized watches.

OP, seems as if you spent the better part of your 2 paragraphs justifying this purchase. You need not justify this purchase to anyone. Spending 30k on a watch is no small feat. But at the same time, it’s only money and you only live once. The sooner you dive in, the sooner you will get over it.

I agree with you. It’s very hard to spend it all at one time for me as well. I’m good up to
About 20k over that I struggle mentally with it. I had a day date in very good shape I had paid 13k for. I wore it for a few months and then went and traded it for a perfect shape dd40 and paid 11k more in cash so I spent the money over time. I still till this day find it hard to pull the trigger on an expensive piece. Since I sold my dd40 last month. I imagine I will have to pull the trigger again. Maybe use a card to not feel like I spent so much money at one time and pay it down in a few months. I totally get what your thinking though. A dd40 is a some people’s yearly salary. It’s no joke cutting that check.

>>I've had my Daytona almost two years and get a kick out of putting it on every day. Was it worth it? F&%k yeah! To me it was. I have never had a single moment of regret or question.<<<

Although I'm not (yet) a DD owner, I always wondered if I was the only one that experienced a little "buzz" every time I put my on my Rolex. I suspected I was not alone and it still happens everyday! My Wimbledon Datejust41 mesmerises me everytime I look at it, or when putting it on in the morning.

It's a feeling money *CAN* buy!

That said, by all means get that DayDate and don't look back.

You might find the courage to buy one, but there's a good chance you'll never forgive yourself for doing it. If so, then it will only be a source of angst, and nothing like the source of enjoyment you hope for. I recommend caution.

I have owned the platinum Daytona and now the white gold sub (blues dial) (it was a legibility issue).

It depends on your personality. Some people are thrifty by nature and can't see spending on luxury items. Others spend all their money on luxury items. It is a spectrum. Where do you fall on it?

I tend to be a saver and investor by nature but buy what I like and can afford.

I tend not to make rules for myself, but my one rule is that I won't buy an expensive watch unless I plan on wearing it every day. But that is me. Others have many watches and rotate them.

You have to figure out what kind of person you are and if buying the DD is the best move for you. Each person is different; there is no right or wrong answer. Just what is right to you.

I waited until I turned 40 before I bought my first Day-Date.
I think the President bracelet is beautiful, but not if you are too young.
What is too young ? I don't know !
White gold / yellow gold / everose / diamonds etc. also makes a difference.
That my opinion.

In terms of rewarding myself, I find solace in knowing that I CAN make such purchases.....I don’t actually need to do it.

I've wanted to get a DD for a long time. And now I can. This is not a matter of stretching myself financially or anything to that effect. This is just getting the gumption to go in to the AD and bust out the checkbook. The actual thought of spending 30K+ for a watch just baffles me. I know there are a ton of you who own a DD. Did you all have to grapple with the thought of laying out that kind of cash for it? If so how did you overcome your hesitation? Thanks in advance but I'd really like to know.

Well, Archie Luxury says it the purchase doesn't hurt, it's not worth having!

I wanted mine ever since I could remember. The two issues that prevented me from pulling the trigger were size and bracelet stretch. When the DD2 came out I wasn't enthralled. It looked a bit too big and I wasn't thrilled with the dial choices. Different story with the DD40. Loved the size and the look. As soon as I read about the ceramic inserts in the bracelet I was sold.

Another thing to consider is that the case and bracelet really don't show scratches all that much. There aren't a lot of large polished surfaces like on the 126715. Loved the look but I wasn't sure I could live with what I knew the bracelet would look like after a few years.

As for the money, if you buy it right it will always appreciate in value over time & it's never going to be any cheaper than it is right now. My uncle paid $500 for his when he graduated med school in 1960.

I think you will have many more enjoyable years with a DD than any car. Also, if you have a son, he can enjoy the watch and remember his father every time he wears it. Good luck and I’m looking forward to the pics
I agree with this guy, not saying throw total caution to the wind but you have to enjoy and live life. Within the last 22 months both of my parents were diagnosed with cancer and died, my father was 65 and my mother was 64 . Life is too short to spendall your time saving for a day that might never come, enjoy life!

As mentioned here, pre-owned is a great way to go, there are lots out there, patience is key in taking your time to find the right one.

My criteria as passed on from another member, who advised me over numerous phone calls to, "slow down", "patience, there are tons out there", and finally, dial must be perfect, must have good to great lume, must be on a bracelet and the bracelet must be at least very good to excellent, and while double quickset is best option, condition is supreme.

Four months and a stroke of luck I found this 18238, A serial (1999), YG, silver dial and sticks with great lume in perfect condition. Only box I didn't tick was getting the silver tapestry dial, but at a service, I'm hoping to get it changed. Another member here has the champagne tapestry dial, just a gorgeous piece IMO.

Very happy with this, and it's just the bomb to put it on....

As far as the OP's question; buy one at a good discount or slightly used and it will hold its value. Don't pay MSRP. They are beautiful watches.

FWIW, I've come along way from trying to figure out how to buy my first Rolex to owning a Pt Daytona. I never thought it would be possible.
