I’d be happy to post the build tomorrow am. I did get the yellow seatbelts and clock to offset all the dark. That was Nicks idea. I’d normally be against it. But it just sounds so awesome to me. And imho makes it a bit more “exotic”. And of course, it’ll match the brakes nicely.

I too am surprised I got an allocation. Interestingly enough, Tage found one on rennlist in Virginia. I was just about to pull the trigger.

But Ive become friendly with my local guy and he asked me to give him a shot. They apparently just sold their one allocation. But the guy who bought it, a big fish, also wanted a 992. They ended up selling his allocation to me as he agreed to but the 992.

I would have gotten better numbers in Virginia, but I’m just much more comfortable dealing locally.

Never had a Porsche, let alone build one. Only car Ive built is my RRS. And that is just the perfect car for me. So it’s aomost as if it’s the smartest thing I can do. So far, I’m less likely to move it fast, if it’s my build. After all, hard to find any fault with my own style and decisions.

Will post detailed build in the am. I’ll just cut and paste.

I think that just about any new sports car is pretty easy to drive, relatively speaking.

I own a Ferrari F40, 360, and an F430 and in the past I've owned a fair amount of Ferraris, including a street legal Challenge car, a Daytona, a 550 Maranello, etc. as well as a Lamborghini Countach, Porsche 2.7 Carrera RS, BMW M1, etc.

Certain cars from certain eras were more difficult to drive quickly but for the most part, if you're a mechanically sympathetic person with any kind of motorsports background, nothing's truly out of place.

I am on the board of the Ferrari Club of America and do some driving instruction at our local track days and the new cars are all so easy to drive quickly that I don't think that anyone should think twice about not buying one because they're "difficult to drive." Of course, being careful of curbs and driveways and such is always a must and other things like that.

FWIW, in addition to the Ferraris, I have a Mercedes Benz S65 and that is one of the craziest cars I've ever driven and I can't imagine what M-B was thinking when they decided to build that (but I am very thankful that they did).

By the way, the whole term of "Supercar" for regular production sports cars is kind of a misnomer. For a company like Ferrari, the only cars they consider supercars are the 288 GTO, F40, F50, Enzo, and LaFerrari. I would call the Miura and Countach and Diablo true supercars, and a fair amount of others. But a 488 GTB is a sports car.

Seth!!! You are a man after my own heart! I jumped into the Porsche game with a 718 Cayman. I went Cayman over 911 for the handling. However, the Targa has really been on my radar lately.

It's kind of a long story but I've always been a car guy but didn't have any money for a long time. I used to buy and fix up neglected Ducati super bikes, which was a real passion hobby but at the time I thought it was probably a placeholder for car stuff. When I finally made an okay amount of money I was planning on buying a Porsche 3.6 Turbo but I ended up buying a Ferrari 355 Berlinetta instead and I just loved that car. I sold it during a business downturn but 6 months later, I realized I didn't need to do that and bought a Ferrari 328 GTB. I owned that for almost 8 years and then I had a chance to buy my all time dream car, the F40. So I sold it to partially fund the F40 purchase. After I bought the F40 I was kind of cash poor for a bit as it took so much cash to buy it so I only had two cars: a Honda Fit and my F40. In time, I added more cars including the ones I listed above and at one point, I had 5 Ferraris: the F40, 1972 Daytona, 1994 348 Challenge, 2001 550 Maranello, and my 360 (which is really a manual transmission Challenge Stradale of sorts), as well as the others.

All in all, it was too much and I decided that as much as I love cars, being a car collector wasn't for me as I just couldn't give them all the care someone with OCD like me feels the need to devote to them. Also I hated the attention when driving them and didn't get them out enough. So I realized that I needed to go down to the just the two that I really love, and that's the F40 and 360. So I started slowly selling the others off.

Also in that time, I had gone back to that love of rare Ducatis and was spending a lot of time riding and tinkering with those. Plus they're so much easier to store and maintain. And best of all, I can roll up to a stop light on the rarest, most special Ducati which makes my insides completely tingly and not a single person gives it a second glance. Combined with the amazing roads and tracks that we have here, it's awesome and for me such a nicer way to go over having a lot of cars.

I have always said that if I go back to really having a car collection, I would make it a four car collection with the following: Ferrari F40, Ferrari 288 GTO, Lamborghini Countach (Downdraft QV), and a 2.7 Carrera RS.

The RS is really a special car. It's really a bit of magic. It's raw but with a light, nimble feeling that's really hard to replicate. Whereas I would say the F40 is very serious and all business, the 2.7 Carrera RS is more playful. I'm not sure if that makes sense but that's probably the best way to describe it.

Mine was a series 3 Touring but is the best of all of that series. My issue is that it was a perfect car. I put a little over 1,000 miles on it in two years and was afraid to drive it any more. I didn't feel like I could go and rip around on it like you're supposed to do with one. And that wasn't fun.

Of course, I did well on it when I sold it as it was a true "best of the best" example (it set a world record) but I didn't have any regrets. I might buy one again in the future but if I do, I will probably look for one from the first series.

Reading through your posts on this thread, I was thinking “it’s gotta be some type of 911”.

Lo and behold, the 911 Targa 4 GTS is an absolutely incredible choice. Definitely dream car material for me personally!

Seth - you knocked it out of the park on both the car and spec! The yellow calipers on the blue with the GTS center locks is going to be stunning! Knowing you’ve never had a Porsche I’m genuinely excited for you to experience it. There is just absolutely nothing like a 911. I’ve driven Ferrari’s, McLarens, etc and while they all have their own merits I will always have at least one 911 in the garage at all times. When you sit in and just drive it everything just feels so...right.
