SS Daytona owner at last!
I'm new to RolexForums and just want to say thanks as many of your posts about the Daytona have helped me greatly in the purchase of my first 'SS Daytona'.
I can't remember ever being so excited about picking up a watch. Perhaps its all the 'hype' that has surrounded (and still surrounds) this watch or simply because I've never encountered a watch (within my budget) that was so hard to find! I can't remember the number of Rolex AD wait lists that I put myself on over the years. Eventually, I found one on the after market in HK and paid about 7% on top of the RSP (HKD70,000) with a 'V' serial that was originaly purchased from a local AD. I guess this is not bad considering that only 3 months ago (before the 'economic tsunami' hit) this same watch was selling for over HKD90,000. Does anyone know the current market price for a brand new white dial SS Daytona in the US, Europe or elsewhere? Just want to gauge to see if I authentically got a good deal. Best regards. |

Uk price is £5340 (78490 clasp) & £5730 (78590 clasp) depending on clasp. USA i think (?) is $9200 v $9900.
HKD is approx £6210 or $9000 in todays (tourist) exchange. Great watch BTW and welcome to TRF my man.

Thanks for the info. 7500 euros comes to around HKD80,000 (@10.70) and I paid HKD75,000 so seems like I got an OK deal. Need to pass this bit of info to my wife cuz she thinks that I overpay for every watch I buy! Shall post some pics when I get home tonight. I just picked up the watch during lunch today and it immediately went to my wrist! |

Various way. Has it got a lot of engraving and pattern on the clasp? There are pictures on this forum to help. Do post back with results though.

The bracelet has the number on it.
I think Felly did a thread about the differences between the two bracelets, Felly has had several Daytonas (might be close to ten) I think he has three right now, unless he just flipped the one with the new bracelet. I have the older style (78490) and it is very comfortable and classy. The newer style (78590) is similar to the newer GMT IIc Regardless of what bracelet you have you will come to love your Daytona, if you don't already. The SS Daytona is a "grail." Congrats on your Daytona and welcome to TRF

Only addition to charlie's comment re: UK prices was that Daytona was £5450 with 78490 clasp

No, it's £5340 as initially stated. The vat is 15% not 17.5%. The old price was £5450 but that changed when the vat changed.

Dude, no wonder some ADs are confused as to what to charge clients. I don't think all of them know what's what. Apparently, lots of people have been overcharged for the older models and asked(received) their refunds when they complained after.
