First post! Just joined the club (both clubs) :)

Greetings fellow Rolex owners. This place was one of the resources I used when shopping for my new (to me) watch. Now that I own one, I thought I would join up. Hoping it doesn't become too expensive a hobby...

I got a great deal on a 14060M. V serial/4 liner. Box and papers and looked barely worn. In what is one of the those rare events these days, I like it even more in person than I thought I would. But no pics for 10 posts... Anyway, who needs another watch on wrist shot. It's a common enough example.

But what is with the prices on these things? For some reason the 14060 market is kind of going crazy. Just since I have purchased, similar examples (VG condition/4 line/box and papers) is going for about a $1000 US more than the market prices of a month ago. I have even seen straight trades offered for a newish 114060. Which although I know plenty of people think is aesthetically not as appealing, plenty prefer it and it is newer and possibly with an upgraded movement. Is it just that the older models are finite and therefore more desirable?

Welcome and Congrats on a great watch!!

The 5 digit references are great - and the 14060 one of my personal favorites — both references (along with the 114060) have large followings and could be discussed all night long!!!

Thank you!

It's interesting how an 8 year old watch (Card shows it was purchased and signed in 2011) can be barely worn... I think I have put more wear on it in a week than it's previous life. (I'm a photographer and work with my hands a lot) I thought a few things were smudges/scratches but when I rubbed them they were leftover adhesive from the stickers that come with the watch. I was chatting with the jeweler who sold it and he said it's very common to buy one, wear it a bit and then freak out and put it back in the box. And sell it years later.

But I bought it to wear. I think I have wanted one half my life. It does make me a bit nervous having something so expensive on my wrist... I cringed when I smacked into an equipment rack the other day... I know, I'll get over it.

It's kind of too bad. I mean I get it. I bought a new BMW and cringed at the first gravel damage. But you move on. A watch is kind of like a car. It's a daily use/pleasure item (if a nice watch or car). It's an expensive watch but WAY less than my car. So why not enjoy it every day? It's nice. It's a daily reminder of why I work and it will deal with the abuse of my job reliably. And like the car it feels and looks great while doing it's job.

The 14060 is where I started too. Good luck on not spending too much money on watches!

Awesome 5 digit reference. It's simple, classic and versatile in all situations. Enjoy it, and never worry about posting a wrist shot because they have been done before. We love seeing them!

Finally ten posts! Here it is. Each new scratch makes me cringe a bit. I know, I'll get used to it.

Sorry to be slow to respond. Some people look at watches as investments and worry that wearing the watch, removing the stickers, and even getting a few scratches on the watches will ruin their value. It the loss is that pricey for them I believe they're in the wrong hobby. All my watches get worn carefully but not babied. Certainly none are in a safe, unworn.

No real stretch either. As I mentioned it seemed the previous owner barely wore it.
