My pair of selvedge Lee’s (Kuroki Mills) that I bough in Tokyo 5 years ago for $250 is still in great shape! It costs more then regualr denims from your favorite designer but for $/year stand of point, its a good value!

Can anybody recommend some black denim jeans that would be a good alternative to try for Levi 510s.

Am I correct in thinking the Japanese denim is very rigid and doesn’t have much give in it for moving about ?

Have a pair custom made for you. There are a few places in Manhattan and Brooklyn that are great. Try Selfedge. You can also get a pair made at the Levi’s store. Cost is between $600-$800 and they will literally make whatever you want.

Thanks for the suggestion! I don’t have plans to be at either of those cities anytime soon...Do these folks do Trunk shows? That is the only way I can get bespoke shoes. George Cleverleys comes to the Bay Area twice a year so I can get fitted and look at styles. Afraid trips to London are not in the future either.
