It’s faster than reading and deploying a targeted strategy.

But I think almost everyone asking the same question as OP should buy this...

This is exactly it Brandrea...

I purchased my blue dial sky dweller at retail, I truly believe we have a relationship beyond a transaction. Sometimes I score, sometimes I don't and they're upfront about it too. The owner is a very good person, probably why they are on their 3rd generation now. Recently he told me about him selling a ceramic Daytona white dial to an older gentleman who always got gifts for his granddaughters, wife etc. The guy never spent over a grand but had a connection with the store & its employees this time he wanted something nice for him. He doesn't even have lists. I respect that.

I drop by my AD to visit and chat, not just about watches, but about family, holidays, life’s ebbs and flows etc. Over the years, we’ve become friends. That’s how I think of them, and they think of me. It didn’t happen over night.

You’d be surprised what can happen when you let your guard down and just be yourself.

I’m by no means a big spender, in fact in that regard I’m probably like most here on this forum, and yet they always help me out with whatever reference I want. They also know I have a genuine interest in the Rolex brand and that I buy to wear and enjoy.

So my advice: be yourself, be nice, and forget the gimmicks.

AD's have many sales reps working for them. Find the sales rep you think will work best with you. Be kind, be persistent, and be consistent. You'll eventually get something. It may not be a Daytona but definitely something

Were I an AD, I would definitely remember a potential customer who brought me "gifts".

As being someone very creepy and off-putting.

Reps come and go. You want to get to know the owner, and failing that the manager. The person working the counter has very little impact on what goes to whom.

Recall one guy here insinuated something-something his wife did with AD and he got a SS white dial Daytona from the major chain store. Alas, can't 'go there' just for a watch as i truly love my wife. Not sure if any of it is true, though it appears his wife was able to get him a special SS watch for his bday, so something she did seemed to work.

Hard to say, do they like home cooked curry?

Perhaps you should do a survey on them and figure out their culinary preference. This way you can do this thing perfectly and not offend them.

there is more curry shops than probably any other food in London for sure. Even more than fish and chip shops and way more than US burger joints. People love it

In sales? Money talks and BS walks. In most cases there is only one way to get on their radar.

It all depends on how long your prepared to wait. There is a shortage as we know but the amount of people that say they want a Rolex but bottle out once they get the phone call is probably very high. Make it clear that you are serious and dropping in once in a while will confirm that. Eventually you will get the call. ADs just want an easy sale and if you can convince them that they will get that with you they will be in touch soon enough. Personally think over estimated wait times are bs on certain models.

Good Relationship with AD is built over time, there is no short cuts. loyalty goes both ways. Don’t try to find the cheapest possible price online or gray every time when you buy a non hot brand or reference. Buy from your AD and let them know there are cheaper price you can source the watch. Frequent visit is not gonna help, AD and the sales reps also need to make a living and the easiest way of doing that is to make their loyal customers happy.

Where is people's pride and self respect? I mean who goes brown nosing to a watch boutique, if this is what people do, what else do they do?

I would love to rewind 25 years, i am sure people were not like this pre-internet.

Wow, you must be really desperate. Rolex is to blame for this madness. Seriously though, if you travel, look elsewhere, or get another watch brand. Alternatively, buy from trusted seller, grey, or used market.

I drop in the AD maybe once a month and have gotten to know the owner over time. Half the time, we aren’t even talking about watches. We talk sports and they pick my brain about things related to my profession. Getting to know the manager/owner will go much further than a random sales associate who has to get the OK to sel you the watch.

You have an interesting way of phrasing that you bought 5 watches from a place that sells watches :)

I'm of the opinion that a jewelry store should be glad you bought jewelry from them, not the customer feeling honored and privileged to be allowed a chance to leave money at the doorstep.

But then again, I'm already planning purchases years out in the hopes of landing a pepsi so who am I to criticize?
