Hey guys,
I wanted to get everyone’s opinion. I purchase an AP15400 in January and I’m in love with it. I noticed after giving it a full wind and setting it on the winder, a few hours later I’ll see the second hand not ticking. Once I take it out and just tap on the watch it continues. Any suggestions ?? I really don’t want to send it to the service department.

This watch is like an exotic car...Ferrari. Very finicky. I wouldn’t worry about it unless it happens again. I also got a 15450 in January. I have seen a gain of 5 minutes within an hour of going out (lots of movement). Not too worried about it until it shows up on a regular basis.

Well I rewound the watch and put it back on the winder to monitor it. It happened again ! The strange thing was when I fully wounded it and just left it in my watch case. It ran almost 40 hours without stopping. So I am going to wound it again and not keep it on the watch winder.

Sounds like the same issue of mind where we are “overpowering” it if that makes sense. Not sure if that’s possible but in my head it

I doubt it but might be possible. I might try to wind it fully and leave it in the watch case again and observe.

There is a mechanism built into the movement to prevent over winding so it’s not getting over charged.

If with normal wear it’s not holding power, pop it back to AP and they will sort it quickly and under warranty.

Wear it every day for a month but don't put it on the winder and see it that happens.

While wearing it, it does hold power and time for sure. But might need to wear it consistently to find out.

Stop with the winder and see what happens. I am in the camp which is against winders in the first place, you have a quickset date and a 3 hander, just set it when/if it stops. No need to keep it on a winder.

If it continues, send to APSC, they are top notch over there.

I had a 15400, have a 15300 now, never saw that before. Did you buy this new and from an AD/Boutique?

this is not normal what so ever. If this happens again I would send it in for service asap.

Not the second hand, but the minute hand does sometimes jump. Consider it a quirk of the 3120 movement.

All hands are solid on my 15400 - no wiggle.

It is normal and known behavior of minute hand will jump for cal 3120 movement.

If there is tension on the crown when setting the time then the minute hand can jump.

I give my watches around 5 winds to get the second hand going, set the date/time and then turn the crown back ever so slightly (but not enough to change the time) before pushing the crown back in. Give it another 20-25 winds and screw the crown back in. No minute hand jump when using this method.

If I just wind it 20-30 times and set the date/time with tension on the crown it will sometimes jump.

OP, one thing with winders is that certain watches need to be wound by the drum in the winder rotating in a certain direction, some clockwise, others counterclockwise, still others either. I don't know which one AP 3120s need as I do not use winders, but it's probably worth looking into.

Thanks for the suggestion and this is similar things I heard as well to prevent the minute hand from jumping when push in the crown
