Wow. No kidding.

I was under the impression they fixed all that.

will it be as comfortable as a Grand Cherokee. No, certainly not.

however, I do believe that it is likely far superior to what some of you guys are thinking.

I went in my friends new one, I was not impressed. I drive a 3 series which is a pretty bumpy ride, the wrangler takes 'bumpy' to a whole new level. However, if you like that. Go for it! My friend loves his. Unsure how he plans to drive cross-country next week with it.

Believe me, I wanted to like it, I really did. When I was in collage I owned a CJ7 it was literally the perfect collage car/truck, could not have been better. Have very fond memories of my jeeping days, but as an old fogey my back and kidneys would need a harness to own one LOL YMMV

You’re exactly right with this statement, and I’ve had 0 reliability issues with anything past 2007
Thanks for all the info. I appreciate the ride isn't going to be like the X5. Truth is we don't do many long hauls. One trip to Hilton Head in the summer and other than that it's just mostly out and about. I'm rather excited my wife wants away from the X5 since our last 2 were exactly that. Plus it allows me to play the mod game which kinda excited me.
I think for trips to the store and around town the ride should suffice. For our one long trip a year, it's usually a few hours of driving with lots of bathroom and snack breaks anyway.
Getting a little jazzed for the spring to get out and drive one![/QUOTE]

For your purposes.....perfect! fire away with any questions. As for the folks on here who’ve “TRIED” it, you’ll get answers all over the map. Coming from a person who’s daily driven a Wrangler for the past 8 years......I’m 50 yrs old, I’ll tell you anything you need

They have.....DEPENDING, on what you’re comparing it against.
I mean, if you’re comparing it to a jeep wrangler, which is the only thing you should compare to, then yes… Many refinements in this vehicle over the years. If you’re comparing it to a luxury SUV… Well that’s apples and oranges

Exactly. Not expecting the same comfort as the X5. I'm giving up comfort for fun from my perspective. Changing things up and figured in a few years if we go back to the dark soccer mom side, I won't lose my shirt. Our X5 M sport with a tune is close to 400HP and a ton of fun to drive. I'm hardly expecting the same. Plus my wife likes it and she drives it 90% of the time. I work from home and happily jump in my Pcar for 3 seasons so am happy either way.
Truck we're looking at is a 19 Sahara 4 door with retractable soft top. Can't imagine the kids and wife won't love it. Worse case scenario, I'll rent a minivan for our trek to HH every summer, but think having it there will outweigh the drive.

Nope, it is better than a regular og CJ5-7 but it is not able to compare to a road/SUV. The new Jeeps are still built so that they try and have "trail" cred. In all honestly, I would have one if they worked on the reliability aspect of it instead.

But when they sell as good as they do why fix it????

Kind of like Subaru Outbacks. They had a known issue for over 10 years of the 2.5 motor dumping headgaskets. But they did not do anything to fix that until supposedly 2015. And it is one of the top selling cars here in Colorado.

Had this one for 7 years. Not a single issue. Yeah it wasn’t the smoothest ride but it still cruised at 70 with one hand on the wheel and took many 600+ mile road trips.

This is its replacement. A 2019. It rides so nice that I’m considering leaving the suspension stock.

Because some people still like to do this with their Jeeps...

Not me but some people.

Yeah that is very rare. Most jeep owners just like to add "gear" to it. But getting it dirty is a whole different story. Not to mention those Jeeps are no where stock.

I think the Wranglers are great short distance fun vehicles. Definitely not in the same league as a X5. We use one that a friend leaves at our beach house, I think visibility is a challenge, but in the summer, with surf boards and roof open. Aka removed, there’s littel that compares. In the winter it feels like an adventure truck that can handle everything but needs to warm up. I love it for the fun factor, but wouldn’t want to drive it for a longer trip, also egress is a bit challenging.

In your neck of the woods it seems pretty common. When I go onto the various Jeep forums a lot of these guys (mostly all guys) are really into this stuff.

There are the rock crawlers, the trail guys and the posers like me.

There is some off road groups here. But the majority of them are tatical road queens. Very few leave the pavement. And you can't leave the pavement with a stock Jeep here and expect to make it out.

I have a 15 Jeep JK Unlimited. It is an awesome vehicle and can go anywhere. It is actually a really great vehicle for how bad our streets are in NYC and great for getting up to mountains and off-roading. The negatives are it’s loud as heck, ride is atrocious and you will spend more on upgrades than the car! I don’t think I will ever sell my Jeep and will plan to keep it forever. That being said if this was my only family vehicle and a daily driver it could get old. The back seats are also surprisingly tight despite how large the vehicle is.
