Trade in Smurf for WG Daytona?

I have had my eye on the 519 WG Daytona O/F, contemplating getting rid of the Smurf. I have had the smurf on and off for years and although I love it, it gets tiring after a while. The 519 however has the Oysterflex and never owned a rubber band before. Thoughts? Keep the Smurf?

I’d keep the smurf if it were me or shoot for a 116529 on the bracelet. Rubber straps are nice, but not on a $20k+ priced watch..... just my $.02

If you got the Smurf for a good price and/or can stomach the loss, I would do the trade.

I've tried on the Smurf and WG Daytona OF, and while they both feel great on the wrist, I lean more toward the WG Daytona OF.

I am loving the OF 6519. You must see the dial in the flesh. My 6500 white dial has been in the safe for 3 months.

I'd go with the 116509 WG Daytona w/ Blue dial myself. But it's your cash. Hard to trade in the Smurf for anything, and I wouldn't go with rubber personally.

I'd say trading the WG bracelet for OF would be hard but if its weight is an issue then the OF is a great idea.

something about the WG Daytona snaps with that grey dial. Dont get me wrong, Smurf is on a all WG bracelet and although I do like the bracelet, I am not minding the Oysterflex. AD told me every customer he has snatches up the O/F bracelet nowadays. I guess I am the only one that has had an issue with O/F lately.

It would be a heck of a combo to have both.

one thing, this has nothing to do with the weight of the Smurf bracelet. I have owned smurfs for years and never had issue with the weight of the WG. I just would have to get used to a rubber bracelet for the first time.

No way I'd do that. If you are going to move the 116619, at least get one with a bracelet.

It's all personal preference.

I don't own the oysterflex (yet), but when I tried it on it was super comfortable. It's probably easier to wear than the bracelet. On a gold model, I actually feel like I don't need the added gold bracelet weight (but of course, it's nice to have).

I would say, if you no longer enjoy wearing or lack the desire/opprtunity to wear your Smurf (or any watch for that matter) move it for something you do like.

I'm in the process of that as well.

Nice pic of the two...seeing them side by side, makes the smurf actually look duller for some reason..Daytona looks fresher, newer..Ill go try this on again to decide. AD giving me good deal on it and he doesnt get Daytonas in much, especially one as rare as this one.

Best looking of all current production Daytonas (116519LN) vs. best looking of all current production white gold Submariners.

I'd look at Rubber B or Everest straps as an option for the Smurf instead of trading on the Daytona. Looking at TimetoWatch's picture I'd have a hard time giving up that Sub. But that Daytona is beautiful. I like the previous advice given the best, if you trade the WG Sub on a Daytona trade it for the WG with blue dial. I don't like the inequity between a solid gold bracelet and a rubber one in a trade, unless you have thousands in cash coming back to you.

the deal I would get would be pretty much even trade with a little money coughed up but not a bad deal. The problem I have with the smurf, I do get tired of the blue dial after a while. I have always admired that 519 dial. I just need to get accustomed to the O/F.

I tire of rubber straps quickly (except Patek). Keep the 116619.

If they ever release smurf in SS, it will kill the WG smurf grey market...Smurf has always been my go to watch...but not sure anymore

Are you OK with giving up a $20,000 dollar gold bracelet for a rubber strap. I would have a very hard time justifying this deal to myself but I am also a little biased. I will be keeping my white gold sub.

Just cannot get myself to pay that premium for some rubber. Keep the bracelet.

Hmm, tough one. I'm biased toward the Daytona, but if your only reason for trading is that you're tired of the smurf, then you may want to re-consider. You can get tired of any watch, no matter how "hot" it is.

If you can swing it, add the Daytona, wear it for awhile to let the honeymoon period pass, and then bring out the smurf. Wear them back to back and you'll know.

Otherwise, you run the risk of getting tired of the Daytona and wanting your smurf back.
