What 1675 do I have?

Hi,

Could you guys please helt to identify the characteristics for my 1675 and what's correct and not? My head is spinning with all long E's etc. and I cannot seem to get i right.

The bracelet is of course new but I still have the rivet bracelet stamped 1 67. The serial is 5 174 xxx.

Thanks!

Henkan

It's a mk1 dial (long E) with service hands and service insert. Not sure where that 5 in front of the serial number came from though.

Thanks! What is out of place with the 5? The bracelet (1 67) might were well not be original to the watch.

IMO the dial is a service part too.........see "O" of ROLEX and several characters of GMT-MASTER.

I own a 5.3XX.XXX 1675 purchased in 1978 with non-riveted bracelet..........still cpl. original, no service parts...

post an image of the engraving between the lugs to verify the case and age of the watch.

Ok now I'm not sure what you have

If it's a mark 1 dial, then it falls in line with the 1967 bracelet. However the serial indicates the watch is way newer than that.

Strange, could the dial be a service dial on a newer watch? The bracelet could or could not belong to the watch I guess. What would a correct serial number range be for the dial (if it is original and not service)?

It's a mk1 dial not a service dial and it's in a case that looks questionable.

the engraving on the case looks questionable, the words ORIG ROLEX DESIGN shouldn't be there on a 5 mil case. It should read REGISTERED DESIGN. I also thing the engraving font style looks suspect. These of course this is only my opinion and I defer to those who know better but if I was offered this watch to purchase I would politely decline.

Thanks for your input. The strange this is that someone should have gone through all the hassle of making this 20 years ago when there was no collectors market for it. Today sure, but 20 years ago?

Anyway thanks for your input! Anyone else that could shed some light?

I can only agree with what has been said. Replacement hands and bezel insert. MkI dial that is too early for the case serial number, and unusual engraving on the case. Perhaps it is a service case, although it doesn't have the usual 4.4M or 4.7M number. What is engraved inside the case-back?

The serial number doesn't match the dial. The current dial is a Mark I which was way out of production before the 5 million case numbers. The insert is not correct either though probably genuine.

Orig Rolex Design is not correct for a 5 million case number.

The area between both lugs is "mint" - it literally has very little to no end link marks or wear.

The serial number stamping isn't very straight - it seems somewhat crooked and there is more spacing between the 7 and 4 than with the other numerals.

Personally, I wouldn't want to be on the receiving end of this watch. Too many red flags for me.

The case back is engraved with IV.68. So maybe the middle case is a service case then? As everything else lines up to late 60 specs?

Did a little google and from what I understand 5 mil serial could have Orig Rolex Design as they chaned during that period from Registered Design?

I'm not sure what you Googled, but that part is not correct. Just go to HQ Milton and you can find dozens of 1675s with 5M serial numbers (you can search for 1675 1977). Every one of them will say Registered Design. The switch to Original Rolex Design came later.

The internet is not always four friend or correct. You seem to be shopping for someone or something to tell you the watch is correct. Good luck with your endeavors.

Not at all! I just want to learn about the specifics about my watch. And maybe understand why it is like it is. As I wrote, I have had it for a long time and when I bought it 1675:s could be had for a song so it wouldn’t have made sense to fake minute details. But what do I know? Stranger things have happened...
