34mm on a guy

All watch wrist shots are deceptive and offer no real information on size.

They are distorted by perspective and by angle as well as by the wide angle camera lens on cell phones..

Just as an example, there is now a trend by women getting nose jobs and facial surgery because of all the selfies they've taking which makes their faces distorted due to the wide angle lens on a cell phone. So these people think these selfies are how they actually look.

If a person owns a smaller size watch and rotate their watches I'd just suggest that you wear something 40mm or less before you wear a 36mm. If you wear a 44 then a 36, obviously the 36 will look tiny.

I wear or wore a lot of 34-35mm watches because Im into vintage pieces.
It is all a matter of perception. Wear a smaller watch for a while....it becomes the norm, right size.
Wear a bigger one and instantly the previous one will feel or look small.

I currently have a 34mm OP date as a daily beater. It is perfect, great wrist presence especially with the oyster bracelet. A smaller watch is always gonna feel more comfy to wear.

Ali, arguably one of the greatest boxer in history wore a tiny tank. Ryan Gosling is known to have a good fashion sense and he wears a 34mm gold OP as well.

I feel watch size trending will soon go smaller just like with suits. In the 90's, the trend was for a suit to be slightly bigger but nowadays, the suit should be form fitting.

I recently sold my Day Date 36 as it looked ridiculously small on my 6.5 inch wrist.
Anything under 40mm is ladies size in my opinion and even 40mm is very much unisex these days

I suggest taking a pic a bit further out than right up close on the wrist as it doesn’t reflect the true size on the wrist.

But generally, 34mm would look very small for a male wrist unless you have really small ones (<5inch wrist).

For me, i have an 18cm wrist and I thought 36mm was too small, but am now reconsidering. 34 would be too small for me though.

Those pictures dont reflect the true size of 34mm to be honest. They are too zoomed up. Take some pictures at a distance to see the real size it represents.

To me even a 36mm felt tiny to me in this day and age. I cant fathom a man wearing a 34mm.

I wear a 34mm Airking / OP most days. If I put it on immediately after taking off an Explorer or Milgauss, it does feel smaller (obviously), but on its own it’s fine. Actually, it’s more than fine - it’s got a timeless elegance about it which I much prefer to most of today’s flashy “LOOK AT ME” watches in the Rolex line-up.

I wore a 34mm for years and it looks great on a sub 7-inch wrist.

If you like how it looks, buy it. Trust me, no one will know it's a 34mm watch besides you.

I think it’s all relative to wrist size. You can’t really say “36mm is the smallest for a man”.
Other factors such as lug length and bezel width also play a very important role in sizing, sometimes even more than the case size. Here’s my 34mm air-king on my 6.5 inch wrist:

I have a 6.5" wrist, and I wear my 34 mm Air King whenever I want something understated. I think it looks absolutely perfect on those occasions. If I want something that I can admire, looks classy, and doesn't call attention to itself, then the 34 mm AK is the choice for me. Other times, I wear my larger sport models, such as my 40 mm 16710.

Remember, 34 and 36 mm watches were designed for men, albeit in a different era. If you enjoy them, then wear them.

Depends on the guy.

If you have a truly enormous wrist, frankly the type of wrist that didn't really exist when 34mm watches were the norm, then yes, I can imagine them looking a little small.

If you have a small wrist (like me at < 6 inches) then they're great as they offer fantastic value and look fine.

The air-king flies under the radar big time, it's job interview worthy, only someone with a keen eye will pick it up. Meanwhile you get the stealth feeling of having something special on your wrist. It can be dressy but also looks the part as a sports watch, very versatile.

The Sub 114060 comes out during those times when you're feeling more bold and casual.

I don't get the "not man enough" issue with the sizing, don't forget all the soldiers and bombardiers in WWII who wore 30mm watches while risking their lives - that's as man as it gets. While style trends have changed and shifted towards larger watches there is still a place for a smaller more tailored fitting watch in ones collection.

Thanks for this shot. Looking to get a Rolex I can afford (34mm), and one of the sales rep was trying to get me to buy 36mm up.
A watch should fit within the square of your wrist. I want it to fit well, not look goofy. Nice watches btw

This is largely related to what’s “in” at any given moment. In my dad and grandfather’s days, slim, smaller men’s watches were the absolute cream of the fashion crop. Do what you like!

To clarify, are you looking at a 34mm because it is the most affordable, or are you looking for the most affordable 34mm Rolex available?

The 36mm is only a few hundred more (assuming we're taking about the OP model here?) so that shouldn't be the deterrent. Unlike past generations, the two use different movements today, and only the 36 comes with the 70hr PR.

That said, I prefer the 34 because I don't love the double hour markers at 3-6-9 and after wearing a 124270 for a bit, have developed a preference for slightly narrower bracelets.

Here’s some my 34MM shots. Personally, the only issue with a 34MM is the dial if you add the date option. Some 34MM watches wear bigger than others. Good luck! I sold the Date and Precision. Kept the Cellini.
