Best chrono's in the market

I know Daytona will get all the raves, but I want to know what other choices do I have, only condition is that it has to have an in-house movement, and please If you have, post pics. Oh another thing, 40mm sports watches are my thing, would go up to 42mm if necessary.

Keep the box, the book, the tools, the bracelet and the two straps virgin; buy an aligator for dress, a NATO for sport.

The Alaska Project will most likely be a collectable, enjoy it for 2 or 3 decades and sell it for a profit

I was actually looking at a AP RO, but reading through various post's, forum member's expressed that the high price doesn't justify the watch

Felly would kill somebody...... He has problems walking into walls when wearing a Rollie, let alone drive. Felly surfing TRF and driving would be a disaster.

I have three rolex and have the daytona up on the top of my list, I think i posted in the right section, I just want to see who the daytona stands up against

AP ROO is NICE
Also don't forget the Zenith El Primo (sorry I dont have a pic but you can find them everywhere....)

They used to tune down their movement and sell the to Rolex for the Daytonas

The Speedmaster (Le Mania) and Tudor (ETA Valjoux) don't have in house movements. There aren't many chronographs that do have them. Zenith do with the El Primero. Rolex are now in house. Is the AP all in house or is there a Piguet in that? Vacheron Constantin maybe or is there a Piguet in that too? IWC have released a Da Vinci with an in house movement and a 68 hour power reserve. Cost is over £9000 GBP in Stainless Steel.

In my humble opinion, the best chronographs out there may not necessarily be sports watches. If sports watches are your thing, then my list would be as follows:

- Rolex Daytona
- JLC Amvox II
- JLC Master Compressor Chrono
- Omega Speedmaster (but this does not necessarily fit into the manufacture movement requirement)
- AP ROO with the previous edition JLC movement

The non-sportswatch chronos out there that are making waves are:

- JLC Duometre a Chronographe
- Lange Datograph
- Patek 5070
- FP Journe Centigraphe

Why? You ask for the best chrono's out there, yet then throw that little wrench into the fold...I'm sorry, but I'm not convinced the best out there is necessarily made with an all in-house movement. And "Best" is a little too vague IMO. Best bang for your buck? Best sport chrono? Best dress chrono? Ect...

The first 'real' chrono I ever purchased was my Omega SMP that was my daily watch for years...I put it through hell and it never missed a beat (and yes, I easily used the chrono function on a daily basis...never once had a miss step or hand hang up during operation or reset...100% flawless). If you want to talk bang for your buck/sport chrono, I wouldn't look much further than the amazing Seamaster or Speedmaster lines. Then again, they obviously don't have all in-house movement and you mentioned you don't care for their bracelets. Oh well...

I recently picked up an AP ROO [Chronograph] and have zero complaints with it but must be honest that my only other pre-owned Chronograph was a TAG.

ROO are indeed lots of $’s compared to 95% of watches and Chronographs out there but being a Chronograph was not the main driver for choosing this watch either….so really depends on what else you are demanding from your Chronograph to narrow down your choices………..

I have looked at all the watches, and the one's that I truly like are the AP RO and the daytona, maybe if i get a good discount on a white gold, meteorite dial on a strap daytona I would go for that, or black dial with red sub dials, or the new dials. what do you guy's think would be the best discount I could get for a WG Daytona

I think you could probabably get a pretty good discount right now on any WG Rolex, the precious metal Rolex's have a huge mark-up, so you should be able to do pretty well, but the fact that it is a Daytona might hinder that. You really should look hard at the Speedmaster, it's a fantastic watch.

Check the Omeag Speedmaster Pro with moon phase and date wheel...you can find them in SS with Black and White gold bezel and SS with a white dial. I bought my off of Shop NBC for $3700 and a six month value pay. this amounted to a 10-15% discount with interest free payments.

IMHO, Ebel has some nice chronos such as the Ebel 1911 BTR and Ebel 1911 Discovery.

Lots of good choices being thrown out. I agree that in-house movement does limit things a bit, although I would argue the the Speedmaster is somewhat "in house" within the Swatch Group.

The El Primero is a great suggestion, as is the A Lange. You can never go wrong with a Daytona, and if you can get bast using an ETA movement, the Tudor is a great choice, as is the Invicta Speedway COSC:
