A Cautionary Tale

So this thing showed up on my chin a couple of months ago. Thought it was a cut that wouldn't heal. Started to grow quickly. Got to the Doc and today they cut it off. Was about the size of a dime. Unbelievable how fast it grew.

Now I look like I was in a bar fight. 16 stiches outside and about as many underneath. Lab results by next week but I don't think I need to wait to know what it was. Will become more diligent about checking and visits to the dermatologist.

Now for the ugliness - look away if you are a little queasy.

I was posting a pic on another site of what watches we had, and happened to mention out loud to my wife that even though the pic was a couple of years old, this mark/cut/wound on my arm was still there.

She had a look, noticed it still there (she's a nurse) and told me the same, make an appointment, get it looked at now.

Doctor did the same, cut it off and had me back to check twice a year.

Yes, it is very important to keep your eyes on things like this, Brenngun, you did well posting this as a reminder to everyone - if you have something that doesn't heal, or suddenly appears, get it checked, sooner the better.

Here's the pic I posted a few years back, notice the mark on my wrist (that's when it looked, "healed" to me), seemed harmless, wasn't...check yourself out gentleman.

Did the doctor say what it was or do they need to wait for the biopsy?

Thanks to all for kind thoughts. In a little pain tonight but could be worse. Thought this would act as a reminder to all. Keep diligent and don't wait too long.

Need to wait. Have a follow up in one week to remove the stiches. I'll know then.

That was a nasty looking sucker, Rick (and the skin-cancer was nasty too!)

Good advice to deal with any unusual skin lesions immediately. Have a friend approaching the end of his battle at present due to a Melanoma that escaped notice for a bit too long.

things on your back where you cant see them need vigilance

i had an abcess on my back cut out last week, it started out as a cyst 3 years ago and became infected, i had monitored it during this time as advised,

it laughed at antibiotics and started to swell alarmingly, so the nurse rang the hospital and it was cut, not nice actually, but now healing.

Too many guys (me included) don’t like going to the doctors for anything but it’s so important when something is amiss like this.

Just thought I'd let all who responded to this know I had a follow up with the surgeon today. Lab results are positive for basal cell carcinoma. Luckily not the bad kind of skin cancer but always a concern. Stiches removed. Healing up well. No further treatment required. Annual dermatologist visit now on the health menu. Thanks to all the members for your best wishes and kind thoughts.
