IWC Perpetual Calendar Top Gun??

Hey everyone,

I have listed after the BP Top Gun Perpetual Calendar for a while now and my local AD just took one in on trade. Super minty!

My question is...

I would have to sell my AP Royal Oak Offshore (rubber clad) to fund the BP.

What do you think? Good move or am I smoking crack?

Dana

I like the IWC more, but most will tell you to stick with the AP

I’d rather have the IWC than that AP, can’t speak to what’s a better financial move, I just like it more.

The IWC is nice but looks a tad big on your wrist (bigger than the AP even)

This. The IWC does look large on you, though.

I was just about to say the same.

IWC is too large on your wrist

So I like the iwc more than your ROo app but personally I would NEVER trade an AP of such high quality. Keep it!

Is it an even trade? You give up your ap for the iwc or do y have to add funds?

Personally I have only traded one watch, an omega vintage. The rest I’ve kept. AP ROo is too primo, no way I would trade that, even if it is for a really killer looking iwc pilot

Looks like the dial even overhangs on your wrist for the iwc. I like it but it's too big, like I have a pie plate strapped to my wrist. Love the rubberclad, and I suspect you'd take a decent hit on selling it.

I recommend trying the IWC on while wearing various sleeves (jacket, shirt, etc). I have a Top Gun doppelchrono (46mm) and I love it when I’m wearing a t-shirt, but it annoys the hell out of me when I’m wearing sleeves of any kind. And the perpetual calendar is 2mm larger than mine.

Personally I prefer the IWC, I’d go for it if you like the fit.

Both the IWC and that ROO are too big for the OP in my view. The IWC is certainly a beauty and would be a great piece if it came in a reasonable size - the current 48mm are absolutely crazy IMO. If it was 42mm the OP might be able to pull it off...

These IWC Big Pilot-style watches are intended to big at 46mm+. That look is their intended look. And so, it doesn't look particularly big on OP. It looks nice on him.

My preference would be to keep that AP - classic ROO.

Would be lateral move with money, no loss or gain.
I was thinking the same thing, as much as I like the BP...not sure i can get rid of such a great AP for an IWC

Thanks! I'll get a shot of the IWC from more of a distance, all closeups of that watch make it look bigger on me than it is

IWC is stunning and less common than AP ROO, I would do it.
Also, what would you sell your ROO for?

I think the IWC perpetual calendar movement is one of the best movements on the market and so easy to set. I'd go with the Big Pilot here. AP is the "superior" brand, but the Rubberclad is one of my less favorite models (just my opinion) and the dial is a little "loud" compared to some of the newer, more subtle Offshore models.

Keep in mind that the Ceramic case on the Top Gun will get these hairline marks ( these are not scratches) over the time.

Check out some used Top Gun watches on Chrono24 and make sure that you can live with them before you buy.
