Worst of all, using "would of" and "could of" for "would've" and "could've".
The word "definitely" imbedded in every sentence. " That was definitely a great party" "We definitely need more beer" "She's definitely hot". "Definitely" It's so totally annoying. |

'at the end of the day'
example 'we had a lousy meal, terrible service, children running around screaming, but at the end of the day it was very cheap'. |

Super. Everything is super now a days. Can’t just be big, bad or small. Has to be super big, super bad or super small as an example.

The expression is ‘to all intents and purposes’ . Ensure he is summarily dismissed.

we have a beautiful saying in england, its used by rich and poor, old and young, native and foreign, not a stupid saying though,
its 'bollocks' its completely universal, unisex. and used by the educated and unenlightened, an example your mate in the pub is banging on about how man dident really go on the moon, and you just reply 'bollocks'! |

The word "folks", when I was younger it was referring to your parents (my folks) or "old folks" or black/white folks etcetc. It was a folksy term or at least sort of neutral.
Now its used in place of the word "people". "Those folks over there that are sending suicide bombers into markets"..... words used by the Bush/Cheney team. Not sure how it replaced the word people in our language. |

Another one is the use or misuse of the words regime and regimen.

When I was in my teens back in the 50s and 60s when people were describing things or an experience they would say I did this or I did that.
Then somewhere in the early 70s the term and actually the mindset when someone was describing things it always began with "it was like" and today its in everyone sentences. I always wondered why that happened, and how society changed to encourage that to happen. Our descriptions went from a verbal description to almost a pause for a visual description. "It was like" a pause to envision what it was like. As if you're giving the receiver of your words the chance to live your experience, or at least remember their experiences that were somewhat the same, which is probably a more personal exchange than the more formal, I did this or that. I'm guessing that it also opened up the "sharing" mentality that happened once Facebook et all, hit the mainstream. Now you don't have to envision my experiences, I'm gonna show you. |
