Get the MK2?

Hi all! Any Explorer MK2 owners here? I currently own a SubC and thinking of getting the MK2 but I feel like they might look a bit similar (although they don't) and the Explorer might not get too much wrist time. I am personally liking the MK2 because it's very under the radar and not too ostentatious. Thoughts?

How do you like the MK2 so far? Is it crazy difficult to acquire from ADs? Cheers!

I love my MkII! I had the MkI and never bonded with it, so I jettisoned it nearly immediately.

The newer model is a keeper for me. I’ve been rocking it since 2016 pretty steadily and still really enjoy it. Very comfortable watch and it’s low-key as well.

Current owner of both and they make for a great one-two punch - definitely different enough to share the same stable — and I’d say most ADs should be able to source within a few months —- sounds like you have good taste!

Glad you love yours!! Good to know that they're not crazy to find. My AD said he'll make it happen for me once I'm ready.

The Mk1 felt like more of my 36mm DJ. Very comfortable yet quite small. Is the Mk2 bulky on the wrist? Cheers man! Glad you love your timepiece!

I have a Polar and a Hulk. I would keep both. They wear differently and are not similar in appearance.

Thanks for the kind words sir! Which Sub do you have? 5 or 6-digit one? Yeah, my AD can make it happen for me (I have a relationship with him). How's the comfort level of the MK2? Is it beefy on the wrist?

Definitely not similar; however I'm not too sure in my case because I have the black SubC. How do they wear differently? Cheers!

By the way, can you put a leather strap on the Mk2?

The Mk1 and Mk2 are of equal bulk from my perspective, and neither is bulky at all! I daily Sea-Dwellers, so I find the explorer a light pleasure on the wrist.

I’ve never put a leather (or any other) strap on my explorer. I’ve never taken it off the bracelet at all, actually. I understand from those who have that there is little case clearance between the lug holes and the case, so the case can damage straps as a result, but I don’t have first-hand knowledge of that, to the extent it’s accurate.

Get the MK2?

I’m waiting for Basel 2021 when they will do anniversary version with fixed Black Cerachrome bezel, Triplock crown, Glidelock clasp and 3287 movement - my prediction for their anniversary edition 226570.

Hi! I have both the SubC 116610LN and the Exp 1 mk2 and they are a great pair. They complete great each others in my opinion. Sub wears bigger than the Exp 1 but Exp have a bigger dial so on some angles they looks almost identical in size perspective. Both are very comfortable sport watches to wear and they fit perfect in same collection in my opinion. I think that Explorer is quite easy to get in AD and the waiting time going to be like a month or a few.

Sure thing - I have the 114060 and the MK2. MK2 is very comfortable and as you stated, more under the radar. Better for smart casual imo v. sub.

Also, MK2 pairs very well on leather straps and natos. For leather just make sure you get some curved spring bars or the movement on the wrist will shred your strap.

Again, highly recommend this combo - I think you’ll be very pleased. Good luck!

Fantastic watch. 39mm a great size. Wears lovely and although understated it has a beautiful, classy yet modern look.

You’ll love it!

Thanks man! I appreciate the insight! I actually have a DJ 36mm as well. The DJ is quite dressy, the Sub too casual, and the MK2 suits either both. Maybe the MK2 will be my third watch!

Get the MK2?

I would always recommend keeping a sub in the collection if you can, but man, the exp is all class. Simple, elegant, and fits the bill in so many occasions. A lot of posts involve potential investments and endless waiting lists, but if you want a watch because you just want a great watch, this is the one. Good luck in your decision.

I have both, they make the perfect 2 watch collection. The sub does get more wrist time for me, but the explorer is a nice change for travel and occasions the sub is too loud. Get both, you’ll be love the pair.

Exp 1 and SubC Date are my first entrance into rolex - bought them together at the local AD here. It was a month ago, and I'm still wearing my Explorer 1 and have not resized the SubC

I don't think they look all too similar, very different IMO. Exp 1 is just more practical as a daily driver doing chores. It's simple, understated, and doesn't mind some battle scars. You won't go wrong with it

The Explorer is the ultimate GADA (go anywhere, do anything) watch. Slots very nicely between your DJ and Sub. No problems there at all. I hear quite often that people overlook the Explorer for years, then it ends up quietly stealing wrist time from everything else in their lineup.

A brilliant watch, very classy and dare I say a better (to my eyes at least) case than the maxi case Sub.
