My rolex is a 16753 or 16750?

I, i find this old rolex in a shop.
It is very strange mix
Serial : 62xxxxxx
case:16750
Bracelet 78360 gold with 558 endlinks gold too
movement 3175
Gold Bezel with insert for 16753
Can you help me to undestand something?
Is a 16750 customized in 16753?
it is a private work or rolex work?

As you mentioned, someone may have modified a 16750. I have a friend that did this to his Pepsi 1675. It's normal for the case-back to say 16750, but I think it should say 16753 between the lugs.

X2. Stainless steel to two-tone conversions were common back in the 1980s.

Your watch was a 16750 model originally and converted to give the appearance of a 16753.

Funny. I did the exact opposite and turned my 16753 into a 1675.

I have all the original parts when I want to put it back.

If you like it, they should be offering a pretty good deal for it-- all these changes tend to hurt the resale value as everyone likes originals.

Looks like the marker surrounds are yellow gold instead of white gold.

It’s worth the value of the parts in my opinion. The dial has been replaced as it would have originally had a nipple dial. The bracelet had the center links replaced to make it look like a 76363 bracelet.

The 16750 case is desirable as someone can easily turn it into a 15k watch if they have the parts.

I would avoid unless it’s a steal or you have the parts.

When it was converted the matte dial would have been replaced with a nipple dial. The gold surround dial would have been installed later.

Too much lol.

Your dial is probably worth $400, a nice matte dial is probably 3K. The other high dollar parts are the bezel, insert and band. Unless you steal it its not worth the trouble imho.

Dial, hands, bracelet, bezel, bezel insert and stainless steel crown will set you back $7500 to $8,000 depending on how nice the parts are. Finding a nice dial with matching hands will not be easy.

Interesting. How did you figure out when it was converted? I just assumed it was converted some time later, and the surround dial was available. Seems like the simplest explanation.

Conversions were often done when buying a new Rolex as the retailer had access to the parts to convert the watch and save the buyer money.

Anything is possible as it could have been done mid eighties when that dial was introduced. The dial is also a service dial for the fragile nipple dials which were often replaced at service.

Its also possible it was put together a couple weeks ago before the OP walked into the shop from spare parts.

Presumably Rolex would convert it back to a 16750 using service parts if sent for a service. And that price could be determined. And watches like that come up for sale fairly regularly. Complicated, but it’s a way to think about pricing it as a starting point
