I love my sub and I am quite partial to it, but I would consider buying the Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean.

Since you said "other brands in the dive watch family," I will stick with that.

If I couldn't have a Sub, I would look to the Tudor BB58 first. I like the Sub look (clean with no date) and the red at the pip adds a bit of color. It wears well (albeit somewhat thick) and looks great on a bracelet or strap.

Next would be the Omega SMP. I love the new ceramic wave dial and I think that blue just is stunning in any light. The symmetry of the date wheel at 6 and the skeletonized hands are really well done.

For the higher end of the budget, I am voting for the Blancpain Fifty Fathoms. It's gorgeous and something you definitely do not see everyday (like the Sub, Tudor, or Omega). I love that uniqueness. It is a large watch though, so that makes some shy away from it.

If it still had to be a dive watch I'd go with a Tudor variant. Otherwise, I'd choose a GMT Master II of some sort.

Seiko Spring Drive. I just bought one and its more comfy to wear, keeps better time, and has a better water rating. And I have other Rolexes, including a Sub and GMT.

Correction, Daniel Craig is wearing it whenever he is, and that's because Omega is paying him to do so.

I'd gladly wear a Planet Ocean all the time if Omega wanted to pay me, too!

It was a tongue in cheek comment, obviously I know Omega pay for the product placement in the Bond franchise.

My point was that 007 wears his sports Omega whether he’s in casual attire, or at a casino dressed in a tux.

Well said, thanks for the review.

I can't get a sub (as I won't pay over MSRP) and won't pay MSRP for a used one, so I bought the SMP. The longer I have it, the more I like it.

If I was in the market for a new diver, I'd go for a new SMP regardless of Sub availability. I feel that Omega really stepped up with this latest iteration.

Also a fan of many Seiko divers, and will probably add a turtle at some point.

Strictly divers, Blancpain original fifty fathoms. But it’s a moot point because they don’t make one my size, 40-42mm.

I think you picked this one because it looks like a Rolex. I have never liked the snowflake or lollipop hour hand that Tudor put on this watch at different times.

Love my BB58. Quality is fantastic same case as Rolex too. Bargain compared to a sub I can’t get anyway and a 70 hour movement.
