heavy hitter

i went to collect a watch today , and after picking up my watch from servicing i started talking about gold daytona's and if i could try some on.

first to be put on my wrist was a everrose daytona , after that a yellow gold daytona , then one on a oyster flex strap.

We continue discussing the watches and i told him something i recently learned in a other thread on here: that the lugs and the crown guards are thicker on pm models compared to steel and i ask him how ridiculous the wait is for the steel daytona's and he jokingly tell's me : yeah about 10 years ( note to self i must not qualify as a vip yet ) then he tells me to wait a moment .... he goes to the back , i think is he really gonna pull one out of the vault just to compare the lug size.

He casually strolls back , and tells me why don't you try this on.

Baaaam lays a platona on the trey.

Now i understand the people who plunked down for one , i myself was doing some quick maths on my head how i could make this work.

anyway here are some pic's

I can’t believe that Platona is kinda hard to find now? At least that’s what I’ve read.

A year ago, but here was one in the case at the AD that is close to or on rodeo drive.

Not yet and now you sent me a curveball, might need to go to a new AD first

but in all seriousness that would kill my rolex collecting , what else is there to look forward to after such a piece , a platinum day-date .... not as exciting as this one

and if i go that route my preference goest to the platona with baguette diamonds on the hour markers.

True that...
In all fairness I would not feel comfortable paying that much for a Daytona knowing that the movement is such that the minute hand of the cosmograph doesn't jump exactly every 60 seconds. It starts 2 to 3 seconds before, which is not what I expect for such an expensive watch.

I wish my AD had the Platona, or any Daytona.
All they have is waiting lists :(

Didn't know that, thanks for sharing. I love these little technical details. :-)

I’ve noticed that little “tick” before the main second tick on a number of my Chronographs but never noticed it on a Daytona. In any case, to the extent it happens it is not unique to Daytona.

I tried on a platona about a year ago when I was picking something for myself in PM, truth be told I was not crazy about it, I see why people like it and etc but me personally I would go with something else in that price range like Patek

The behavior of the daytona is similar to the one of the speedmaster in the video. You can also see the comparison with the PP's instant jump at 3:40.

I've just checked my Speedy cal. 9900, it has no jumping minute hand, it's continuous. So at least the latest co-ax mnvt doesn't have that issue.

My Speedy Pro does this, as does my. Breitling Chronomat and IWC Pilot Chrono. My Tudor Heritage moves continuously so no tick at all.

Are there any Chronograph manufacturers that do have the minute subdial tick every minute, without the little pre tick? Honest question not trying annoy.

*Edit* ok having watched the part of the video you referred to I know Patek can do it now I want one lol

My planet ocean chrono 2210.50 ticks each minute as the second hand reaches :00, and is a steal as a preowned watch (I paid sub 2K USD). So it works better than a Daytona, and has much better WR too? sad, to be honest ;). JK!

I have to suffer the He valve oddity stuck on the case as a penalty for wearing the thing. lol

OP, the platona is STUNNING. but def try and get the one with the diamond dial. Its amazing.

I read the heading of this thread and thought you were going to say Mike Trout had bought a Rolex
