Rolex Sighting Thread?

There are many of us who have contributed their stories/experiences when visiting a Rolex AD and the lack of SS Professional models. Would it make sense to create a separate sticky thread for us to post when we actually discover a hard to find model? We list the Rolex model, Store Name, City, State, Province etc in case a fellow forum member is interested in pursuing it.

I remember a short while ago that someone from Michigan posted that he saw a particular Rolex model. A guy from Chicago called the AD, made the deal and then did a quick road trip to pick up. Given the extreme shortage of some models, it would seem a forum like this would be perfect to serve this Rolex community.

Has this been suggested already? What are your thoughts?

Good idea, but I couldn’t help but laugh, thinking this was what bird watchers do! Calling each other when they spot a super rare breed and descend on a particular location

Good idea but I don’t see why they wouldn’t pick up these pieces themselves

Rolex Sighting Thread?

For clarification, this would be a thread to post Rolex models that you see but not interested in.

Example: I see a new Sub at a Rolex AD, but I already own one or just not interested in it. I would definitely post it on this forum for those that are interested in purchasing one. Or a Pepsi, Daytona, Explorer etc. Make sense? It would apply to the pieces that are hard to find.

I think it’s a good idea, why not give it a shot?

Obviously this won’t work for the Daytona; the blro, the blnr, the sub lv

But it might work for others models

I would love to know if there is an Explorer II black dial or SD43 in any of the AD's around Portland/Seattle. Been calling around but best I have gotten was put on a "list" but don't expect a call back :(

Why wouldn’t it work for those models? Of course I’m assuming not everyone wants to purchase a hard to find model and that is the whole point of creating a separate thread. Am I missing something?

I know what you mean. I’m looking for a Pepsi for me and a white dial Daytona for my wife. I think I have a better chance of winning the lottery.

N. Van AD last week:
SS Blue dial YM
TT Daytona champagne dial
Both in display case

TT Daytona white dial in back safe
(it is pretty sad that they have to put this in safe)

----------------------------------------

AD: Oakridge Mall - 2 days ago
SS YM2 in display case

I think it's a better idea than people posting a new thread each time. Might as well just have a consolidated thread people can check up on.

Because according to what I’ve read online, those watches are reserved for VIPs, or are bundled to non vips

Why would an AD put a SS Daytona out in the case for anyone to buy if they could call a frequent customer or a vip to come buy it?

Why would they put it there to sit if they can hide it in the back, wait for someone to ask for it, tell them they will only sell it if they spend $20,000 on a non watch purchase and get it sold ??

I think your idea is a good one, but I don’t think it will work for “hot” watches.

And be indirectly responsible for a high speed car accident or stampede incident at the AD? No thanks.

All of the AD’s I am familiar with do not sell over the phone or ship, will only sell to face to face customers or someone they already know.
No point in making their phone ring off the wall with people who will buy ANY SS model that comes up.

Understood. I never suggested it would be an online purchase. But some people may consider driving to other cities within their state or bordering states to purchase a hard to find sports watch. Just like the example I gave in my original post about the Chicago guy who purchased a new Sub from an AD in Michigan because someone in this forum was nice enough to post what he saw at the AD he had visited.

It worked recently in a similarly themed watch forum and thread... someone posted that an AD in Vegas had a 116500, and another member saw the thread, was in Vegas, and got the watch.

It also worked in this forum. Does anyone know how to get this idea in front of an Admin?

Wow.

Let’s give it a shot then!
