I did it. I sold 5 Rolex watches and a Patek. All bought for deep discounts (except the Patek) from an AD a little over 2 years ago. I sold a little while ago at massive profits.
Truth be told, I was not wearing these as I dislike watches with big bezels but thought they would grow on me. They didn't. I bought a Grand Seiko Snowflake because I love the movement in it and the titanium case. I bought an OP39 White dial and I bought an Explorer. These are my 2 favorite Rolex watches that will stay with me. I bought a Zenith dress watch but gave it to a family member. The rest of the watch money is sitting while I take my time finding the right pieces. No more buying unless the watch really speaks to me. |

I enjoy my watches for what they are and honestly, I don’t think too much about whether they increase or decrease in price.
I’ve allocated a certain amount of money to owning the references that really speak to me, and I’m not selling any of them for financial gain. I truly enjoy wearing these little mechanical marvels and they bring me a lot of joy As others have said, if you sell, then what? |

I have a few models that have skyrocketed in value since I purchased them (16710 and AP-15400), but I would never think of selling either of these. The thought of maybe missing them so much that I'd have to purchase them again at a ridiculous price is much stronger than the thought of making a quick buck.

Buy low sell high. Problem is you have to pay taxes on all the gains. I rather keep the watches.

The economy doesn't have to crash for a bubble to burst (see Ferrari in the early '90s). The only question is "do we have a bubble"? I'm not wise enough to know, but I certainly don't rule out the possibility.

I have never sold a watch of mine, nor do I ever plan to.
Love each and everyone I own and bought them for the love of watches, not to profit. They will all be passed down to my son and grandchildren.

I met a guy at a jeweler who collected some Panerai's over about 15 years. he traded 6-8 in and bought a new Sub and a Richard Mille. This was three years ago.

I don’t really have a model that is way above retail. I have a sub so it’s nice I could make a couple bucks but only way I would really sell would be to buy a different watch. There is nothing in my price range atm that I would want to sell my sub for.
Now lol if I could sell my sub and aqua terra and get an MSRP Daytona C. I would sell that and buy something PM, but that’s not gonna happen |

Did that in 2007 bubble for the Pateks as the company was obviously going downhill, cashed out on most of them.
Keeping the Rollies during this bubble because i trust Rolex :)

Sure. I did it, sold the BLNR, made a few shekels.
Why not? It wasn't anything special, just a watch. I bought another one (another watch, not a GMT). I rarely used the GMT function.

There is no doubt that there are members of this forum who have essentially limitless funds and resources. Many of these are investors in a literal sense and work at it either professionally or as a "hobby". This issue is that the dollar amounts surrounding watches (to these individuals) are absolutely insignificant. That's just the truth of it... So it becomes frustrating to have the forum topics revolve around "investments" and "cashing in" when the monies discussed are "peanuts". It's a boring drone to them... On the the flip side you have people who save to obtain the Rolex and are thrilled it's appreciating in value. They are enthusiastic about it and it directly clashes with those who 100% couldn't care less that their submariner is "worth" $3000 more than a year ago... How long this goes on for is anybody's guess...perhaps a section devoted to market speculation would alleviate the intolerable suffering of those who aren't interested in that specific portion of the hobby... |

I get too emotionally attached to my watches, no point in selling any for a small gain.

Couldn't afford a new Sub,bought a used one ...now the used one is more expensive than the new one ! Crazy ! The current situation leads to strategy, tactics and relationship building and bundling and package deals and the flipper and Grey dealers selling stock on the internet which they dont even have and profit taking etc. This is an unhealthy situation . |

To fund something else (anything), yes. Just because prices are high without actually needing that extra cash, no. But it's money, you know better.

Like I have said. Any watch I do not wear, gets sold. I am not enjoying it so maybe someone else will.
Mine won't be safe queens. If I don't wear it or have the desire to wear it within 30-60 days, it's gone. |
