The market craves exclusivity and demands value retention.

It is very, very clear. There is more wealth being generated for more people than ever...especially by people who normally wouldn't have it in the "old" economy (video gamers, bloggers, Youtubers..etc)

This makes the luxury buying pool much larger than in the past. In that pool, ubiquity breeds contempt. Exclusivity, even if its only perceived exclusivity is VITAL.

On top of this, the internet allows the consumer to see true market valuation of items, especially watches. People see watches like some Omega references @ $12K and they have an online price of $6500? EWWW who wants that ish???? Gross.

Rolex? It's worth more than retail? People can't get them? I'm buying THAT!!

Agreed. And I think that tells you why Rolex is totally fine with the current waitlist/grey price climate we are in. It's ultimately very good for them.
