First Rolex ..... datejust 41
I was in the market for my first Rolex an explorer 2 or a submariner but there was just no way of obtaining with zero buy history. I turned my attention to the datejust 41 blue dial in roman numerals but even then there was a wait for that particular model and was not finding it in the stores.
Today an AD called and said we have a 41 MM datejust in a WG oyster bracelet . I asked what color and he said grey dial with green roman numerals. He said it's referred to as the Wimbledon. He sent me pix and it looked beautiful in pictures so i jumped the gun and placed a deposit to hold for 2 days. am i better off getting this watch since the 2 i wanted will not be available and i don't want the troubles of hunting. What are the pros and cons of that model ? I also only have enough to buy one watch in the 11k range tops so I only have enough for the datejust not another sub / explorer2 if one becomes available. Will i have a hard time selling the datejust Wimbledon incase i want the ones on the top of my list ? |

If your heart is set on the Explorer II or Submariner, I would just wait for those. Any watch purchased to “fill a gap” or to “settle” often doesn’t go well. If you have a budget of 11k, why not go the TS route? You can pick up an Explorer II or Sub with cash to spare.

I like the DJ and think it is a cool watch. I would go look at it and see if it works. The DJ's takes a loss in the secondary market and if it knocks you out of another watch then I would pass. You can get the Explorer II from one of our TS in the 7.5-8K range and almost have enough to pick up a pre-owned Omega Speedmaster. On this, go grey and save and get your watch by lunch tomorrow.
