Waterproofness sub SD

Is a sub or seadweller indeed watertight with the crown unscrewed(open position) when washing hands, showering etc?? And untill how many ft/m would you be safe if so? I was surprised to hear this but i read it somewhere

True the seals inside the tube/stem provide the protection. But there would be no reason not to screw down the crown. With the crown screwed down you have the outside seal on the threaded part and the seal inside on top of the crown adding more protection. Just finger tight is all it takes. Hope the helps!

there is no reason indeed, but i was a bit shocked by myself when i found myself first rubbing my watch with a tootbrush and than unskrew my crown when the watch was still wet setting my sub.. So i checked online and found this information on a forum but i'm unsure wheter this was true ))

Yes it is still water resistant with the crown unscrewed.

I’m reluctant to give any sort of rating to it since in may pass the full wet pressure test in static water but could leak in practice due to a build up of water around the tube gaskets working its way in with the assistance of slight motion to the crown.

Remember with the crown unscrewed, two of the four gaskets are no longer doing their job (exterior tube gasket and crown gasket). You are relying on the two internal tube gaskets.

Thank you for the explanation

Myself once on a dive in the Red Sea noticed my crown was fully unscrewed on my SD while at 25m plus. But I did not panic as I was in charge of a group of divers I was guiding over the reef they were far more important than any watch. On return to surface watch was fine and watch is still fine today that was quite a few years ago.
