This might be harsh, but if one want's original lines, don't polish it. It's not possible for them to return it in the exact same way. I opted to have my 116710 polished at its first service and I actually like the slightly softer transition from the top of the lugs to the sides. I had zero expectation the case would look like new if I opted to polish. I'll probably polish it again at the next service as well. I'm never selling any of mine. They're for my enjoyment. I get the occasional "nice watch" even after polish.

Oh, by the way, your watch looks fantastic. Enjoy it.

I dropped my GMT and messed up a lug. La watchworks made it perfect. Not kinda perfect, but just removed stickers looks exactly like it came from the factory perfect. And they were exceptionally reasonable about the price. Got the watch back in 5 weeks or so. Give them a call.

Restoring Crispness of Case after Polish

Anything you do from this point will make you more unhappy. The people who work at rolex service centers aren’t all magicians. Some are more expertly skilled than others but they are just following a procedure..your watch isn’t any more special to them than the platinum Daytona or explorer they worked on before it. It looks totally fine and if you are going to wear the watch it’s going to get marked up. And if you have it polished it will never be exactly the way it was before. Out of all the people who have a rolex how many would think to micro analyze the sharpness of a lug after picking it up from a Rolex service center, aside from everyone on TRF? Stop looking for problems and wear the watch. This forum is the same thread 10000x over.

The sooner you accept that nobody notices or cares about the condition of your watch besides you, the sooner you will be able to enjoy owning a Rolex.

Having high standards is commendable, even laudable in this plastic, throw away world we now find ourselves living. But, being a "perfectionist" living in an *imperfect* world is only a recipe for constant, ongoing and eventually maddening disapointment. I cannot for the life of me wasting my short life complaining, analysing every little deficiency in products I buy, people I know or situations I have no control over. Appreciate the good side of what you have because things could always be worse.

Just an unsolicited opinion

the result of polishing is actually removed metal. why would the expectation that the case will maintain its crispness?

I can understand there are varying degrees of polishing and a heavy hand may remove more material than another polisher but overall metal is still being removed.

Hey listen mate, I mean no offense to you, but I see you talking negative about RSC quite frequently...
I get that you don't like the polishing, which can indeed vary from place to place, and that the watch doesn't get in a perfectly crisp condition again (which in many cases is rather impossible).

But aside from that I would really like to know what you think is so bad about RSC, just had a bad experience?

Very well said. The very same reason I do many chores (has nothing to do with watches ) myself rather than trusting some self-proclaimed 'professionals' in the field these days....

I agree. I’ve seen far, far worse polishing than what you are pointing to on your Rolex.

Candidly, I would leave it alone.

I had my 116710 serviced 5 years ago after 7 years of daily wear. The RSC polished it and the edges are “slightly softer”. It bothered me for a while but I made my peace with it. It is my daily beater and is all marked up again. I called RSC Dallas to see if they do the case refinish with a lapping machine and they would not tell me. NY did tell me they have a lapping machine. Post what you decide to do, good luck. Personally I wouldn’t do anything, if you have to be happy!

Beautiful watch, to be honest I can't see anything that would have caught my eye.

I would just enjoy the watch, my fear is the more you have someone work on it the worse it might get in your view.

Your “perfectionism” is what got you into this predicament in the first place... you realize this, don’t you? Why did you request for RSC to polish your watch?

I’m also asking specifically about laser welding the corner of the case - if that’s possible or recommended. I feel like adding more metal may restore the shape of that corner. I also feel like that particular corner flares out a bit less than the other corners of the case. Let me know what you guys think:

Wear it for 20 years and re-evaluate. I doubt you will notice or care.

The watch looks great, imo.

Let’s flip this around. If you had them polish it then you weren’t happy with the state you sent it in. Then you got it back and now it’s over polished..one lug...nearly unnoticeable I think....take a deep breath, and let’s all think about this.

agreed, you'll go mad worrying about absolute perfection. I used to do this and realized it was not worth the effort.

As for the Op why did it need to be polished? - NM just read the backstory, erratic timekeeping, sent in for warranty, they put some scratches on it, replace links, scratched some more, polish and now this....

again as someone who was like you I'd say let it go....I know its hard, and you paid a lot of money for a nice watch, but as others have said the more people touch it, the more it gets worked on, the more critical you will be and the more likely you are to find flaws. I often wish I didn't pay attention to stuff like this and enjoy the items I care the least about as I can just use them.

I have a Rolex now that I fretted over this stuff, wore when my child was born, and from that moment on just lived with it as I knew I'd never sell it, now I just wear it, smack it into things and truly enjoy it as its just a nice thing that tells time, not something I get all worked up about with a scratch.

Wow! If you wear your watches no matter how careful you're, you will scratch/ding/dent your watches...I can't imagine the stress you have to go through to deal with this sh*t...I'm used to be a perfectionist too when I was much younger then I learn the meaning of the life: Life ain't perfect, just have a great time live it and let go of things.

Hope you get it resolve and let us know.
