RO Dual Time or Code 11.59

Well? Very different watches, but which would you go with if you had ~$20K for your next watch purchase?

Dual Time is useful, JLC movement and it's an RO. 11.59 has a nice case, cool sapphire, movement is great but the dial leaves me wanting more.

there is probably one model i like more than those two

if i had to pick, dual time but for a dual time watch im not a fan of how the dial is executed. Its more like a giant power reserve indicator watch that has a smaller subdial that with the time

Two very different watches. Do you have use for the dual time feature? Do you already have a Royal Oak? Do you want a gold watch? Can you get an 11:59 for only $20K?

I don’t like the asymmetry of the dual time, the power reserve being too close to the centre.
The Code has a disappointing dial, but ultimately I would chose it over the dual time.
It will certainly be a topic of discussion if you buy the Code.

In the end buy what you like, you are wearing the watch not us.

I'm in the neither camp. Dislike the Code, everything about it, and the Dual Time dial is terribly unbalanced design wise. A steel RO Chrono would be my choice.

Neither. I would broaden my search and find something that I liked more and would hold some value. Look to a five digit YG Rolex Submariner or YG Yachtmaster. Both can be had complete and in good condition for sub 20k.

I'm neither too, don't really like the dial design on the Dual, and that Code is too basic and too pricey. I'd go for a normal RO or ROC.

Seems popular to hate this watch. I don't get it.

I don't understand HATING any watch. I'm either interested or disinterested.

If interested, I may LOVE, ADMIRE, LIKE, or be intrigued enough to find out more or want to see it in person.

But if disinterested, it pretty much stops there. Just not interested.

i dont hate it at all. I just am not in the market for a dressy watch. I prefer it to a Rolex Cellini by a huge margin

No idea why Rolex gets away with that line but AP doesnt. The AP for what it is is pretty nice.

It’s the dial and the overall bulk pay size. It’s a very poorly executed lineup.

Drop the dimensions and put more elegant dials in them, and I’d be a buyer.

I think the Code 11.59 is underrated. Think about the biggest complaint: "the dial looks like a DW or MVMT watch" Well those watch brands are crushing it. Younger buyers love the look of those watches. The Code 11:59 shares a design language, but it's done at a supremely higher level. I think it will be appreciated in a decade or so.

Beautiful. Everyone loves a perfectly symmetrical dial. It takes a level of sophistication to appreciate asymmetry.

yes, but not a lot of people in AP's demo (which skews younger)is wearing sub 40mm dressy watches. Part of the reason is because they are small. Older guys are generally the ones buying calatravas. Im not talking having to wear huge watches, but no way i would ever wear a 37mm watch for example. I would feel ridiculous. Nothing against people who do but that isn't for me

IMO its a dress watch for people who dont like small dress watches.

its why i singled out the Rolex Cellini because they are pretty darn thick for a dress watch but at the same time look like an older, less hip dress watch.

Yeah, I love it. It’s also the only 39mm besides the ultra thin, and increasingly rare to find a good example after it’s been discontinued.

I’m also a bit surprised it received so much hate in this thread.

Almost all the major dual time watches have asymmetrical dial layouts. (Not a true GMT, but specifically dual time)

Most watches with any number of complications beyond just a date are asymmetric.

Maybe I’m just weird. I would rather have the 5712 than the 5711, too...

Unless you are set on spending $20k, if you are considering the dual time, I'd opt for the VC Overseas Dual Time, especially if you already have an RO or ROO.

this watch is dog s___t is that more appropriate?
