Interesting encounter at WoS

A family member was flying from London Heathrow T3 today and went into WoS to check on watches for me. She is not the smartest person with Rolex watches and could not tell the difference between a sub and a Daytona.

Two sales one man one lady, man tried to sell her the YM2 steel claiming it is a rare watch. After seeing the photo I told her to drop it. Few seconds later she told me there is a full gold Daytona which got me excited, however it turns out to be a full gold sub. The lady sales informed my family relative it is a hard to get watch and she should buy it without any hesitation. 3 years wait on this piece.

After I’ve been told the story I was well annoyed and truly speechless.

I’ve been told WoS is crap but this is beyond crap, shocking

I've been to that WoS many times since I depart from that terminal a few times a year. I've never been very impressed.

To be fair I doubt WoS instruct their staff to flat out bullshit potential customers.

You see this kind of nonsense whenever salespeople make commission on sales. Car dealers are of course notorious for it, but I’ve seen it from everybody else from doorsteppers flogging double-glazing to high-end bathroom stores. I’m not saying it’s all, or even the majority of salespeople; I’m sure most are as honest and decent as the average person. But it’s common.

It’s particularly egregious when they assume you know bugger-all about what they’re selling, as was probably the case with the OP’s story.

I stopped in last month hoping for a BLRO or LVc (a boy can dream, right?). Had some time to kill and asked to see a RG Yacht Master on OF, which I have been contemplating buying. As the watch was being pulled out I got the whole speech on how this is one of the hottest watches and impossible to get at traditional ADs. I pulled up my sweater sleeve to take off my DaytonaC to try on the YM. When the SA saw my watch on the trey she said "if you buy this you'd have two of the rarest models in the entire Rolex collection today." Needless to say, I did not make an "incoming" thread following that business trip

I know right? I almost admired the commitment (to delusion) -- they really put the pedal to the metal after seeing that.

Thankfully I should be having a different incoming post next week. I think once I have that one, a RG YM or CHNR may be next on my list. You had some great IG posts of that YM back when it was in your collection

Sales people try to sell. I’ve been told Datejust’s and Milgauss are ‘rare’
