Tudor Next?

Just gauging opinions here as we all know about the current market for SS Rolex sports models. The hype is now spreading to the DJ41 and with that being said do you think it’ll eventually spread to Tudor SS models (ie: black bay)?

Well, the GMT and the 58 are kinda hard to come by in certain regions. All 3 S&G chronos I have seen have sold locally within a week and I have not seen them since.

I don't think it will eventually spread...I think it already has.

I don't think Tudor has the same brand recognition that Rolex does so no, I don't see it spreading

Definitely agree with what you and huncho mentioned. Just interesting seeing Tudor having spokespeople like David Beckham and lady Gaga to appeal to younger demographics. Also as more and more people get pushed out of the Rolex buyers market I can only imagine Tudor expanding even more. That being said my AD said Tudor “had big things in the works” which I took with a grain of salt. I can only hope for that red Tudor sub that was brought up prior to Basel.

I think the market will increase a bit for some popular models among watch enthusiasts, BB58s and GMTs are already there.

Mostly I think Rolex, through skyrocketing demand and prices for their own watches, has perfectly positioned Tudor to regain it's place as the working man's Rolex. I googled for Hans Wilsdorf's original quote about founding Tudor, and it actually appears right on the Tudor web site now, I don't remember seeing that a few years ago after the relaunch to the US market. Brand recognition will increase but obviously never match Rolex.

“For some years now, I have been considering the idea of making a watch that our agents could sell at a more modest price than our Rolex watches, and yet one that would attain the standard of dependability for which Rolex is famous. I decided to form a separate company, with the object of making and marketing this new watch. It is called the TUDOR watch company.” - H. Wilsdorf

Tudor makes a very nice watch. I enjoy mine. Very accurate. Strong bracelet. I’m sure to get another.

No. Tudor doesn't have the mass brand recognition. Certain models will be hard to find, though. GMT, BB58 & P-01 come to mind.

The Tudor AD near my home quoted me a pretty long waitlist for the Tudor "Pepsi" GMT- a number well into the two-digits. Not sure if I believe it or not, but I've yet to see a Pepsi GMT in an AD showcase.

Tudor is definitely growing in popularity. Now, I expect it will never be a substitute for Rolex; however, there are those who look at the brand as an alternative to Rolex and will be inclined to get one.

My Pelagos literally landed today. I bought because I honestly loved the tech and the titanium construction. It's a super functional yet beautiful watch and it's more inconspicuous. Do I put Tudor in the same class as Rolex, no, but I do think they are the leader in the mid-tier sports market with their recent rebranding... Omega never appealed to me and for those that want a Sub but can't get one they may look at Tudor as a suitable alternative.

Brands and groups will be looking to keep secondary prices stable. They will have an acceptable margin % of MSRP they will keep the secondary market at by controlling distribution and tracking secondary values. Everyone is aware of the global online market and have learned how to analyze it.

The Swiss watch industry remembers a few things that happened, brands going under during the "quartz crisis," overproduction and buy backs in the 90s and 2000s, and uneven prices in different markets.

Many people like to wear something that they know holds some value. A funny thing happens that when there is availability and discounts, then less watches sell.

I am thinking that's why there has been a tighter grip on the GMTs and BB58s. I expect watches from the big groups to be less available on the secondary market as they decide how to protect their branding.

I was waiting on the BB58 to trade for discount online, but it doesn't seem to work like that anymore.

We are well over a year since the GMT and 58 were released and they are still relatively hard to find. So yes there is some hype around Tudor. They are great watches and compliment Rolex nicely.
