Its horrendous. Looks like a Mini on steroids. Whats the plastic panel for on the side, looks mad.
Owned Land Rovers for many years, started with a Series IIa. Have a Defender 90 TD5. Its the mutts nuts. Love it to bits and don't think i would ever part with it. |

Now it’s a jewel car not a tool car.

I am seriously trying to think of a bigger automotive snafu in recent years and I just cannot come up with anything.
Mercedes, for example, did a great job with the new G Wagon. They kept the iconic styling, but managed it update it in many ways. I wish LR would have done something similar, even if it meant a starting price that is 20-30k more. |

I disagree, I think if anything it is the opposite. MB has turned the G wagon into a chariot for the rich and famous and refuses to offer one enthusiasts can take off road. For this reason likely less than 1/100 buyers ever venture off pavement. You need over 100k to step foot in one.
The defender can be had for 55k and with factory options such as steel wheels, rooftop tent, winch etc Sure the styling is not a direct descendant but what they are offering seems far better than what I was expecting, which is the exact same thing with a starting price around 80k. Anyone here own a discovery 5? I am wondering if this factory in Slovakia makes crap or not so bad lol

The styling of the Defender is just so off putting for me, but that’s a very subjective thing so YMMV. I do like the steel wheels though lol. |

I get it. Many prefer the '4 digit LR', some like me love the 5 digit, but the 6 digit is highly controversial lol. It's not a tool anymore just some jewelry on four wheels..

I have a soft spot for Land Rovers having owned a swb series1, and a series 3 lwb Safari, on which I put about 100000 miles on in 15 years of ownership. I need to see this new incarnation in person, sit in it and drive it before I pass judgement, and it just so happens that I am thinking of changing my car in 2020, so, you never know, I may like it....... !

I think the market for a 70k stripper g wagon is bigger than you think. Lots of well off people drive 50k+ wranglers with 20k in add ons.

I think a lot of people might agree that the supra is as big, if not bigger.

The fake pillar is absolutely awful. It’s almost worse than the fake turbo diesel hood scoops and fake bead lock wheels Toyota is obsessed with in North America. The Tundra can even be had with double fake on fake scoops.
LR is trying too hard to look rugged. |

The new style can't hold a candle to the original style, not even close. Tonka trucks look more manly than this thing.

I have not been without a Defender 90 for the last 25 years(I have had three.)
They are mightily flawed, yet I would not be without. I think the new one looks great, though I wish they had kept more of the looks of the old one (in particular round headlamps and rear lights) I have always preferred the 90, but the new shape 110 looks better to me, though the commercial 90 hardback, due next year looks good. I doubt I will part with my old 90 but will definitely be looking at purchasing a new 90 or 110 in addition. |

No desire to own the new one at all and I have always been a fan. They shouldn't have messed with the aesthetics.
