New DSSD James Cameron 126660 just landed.

As I said in a previous thread I was watching this watch as soon as I saw it at Baselworld 2018. I love alpha dive watches but even more I love the new Rolex movement. I won’t be price gouged and had to work to source one through a friend I have purchased before for about msrp. That is a major achievement for this watch.

First thing I did was to take off the diver extension and go over the watch under magnification. Perfect. Bezel lines up , etc.. The winding of the new 3235 is smooth as glass and the crown tube threads were also smooth when threading the crown. After 30 years with Rolex I have a check list I go over with a new watch.

The dial, omg, the dial! Pics don’t do this justice and what a stunner.

I am very familiar with the glide lock on my last LVC and SD43 but the glide lock clasp on that DSSD is next level good. Smooth pushing in or out. Super premium feel.

That beautiful 5.5mm crystal distortion.

As promised, I had time to get down to the creek for a water shot. A genuine dive probably this week.

congrats brother. Since you also own the SD43 I would love a comparison. I was undecided between the two. Frustrated me that I could see neither in person to try them on. I went with the SD43, which i love, but Ill always have that "what if" about the James Cameron. Does it really dwarf the SD43? Much more wrist presence? thx sir and congrats again.

Wow, congratulations on your great looking D-Blue! Love the proportions of this newest model. I might consider one as I've been wearing larger watches occasionally and like the extra heft and presence. Enjoy and wear it in good health. Cheers!

I have been looking to try one on but none of the AD's in my area have one. My SD 43 is very nice but love that blue on the dial of the JC. My only concern is the height. Big congrats it looks great on your wrist

nice piece! would love to see one in person myself. I have even heard some saying the new deepsea is more comfortable than the SD43.... considering you have both what are your thoughts on them? do some side by side comparisons if you can!

Thanks guys. Oddly enough my SD43 didn’t work well on my wrist as it never sat right on my 7.25” flat wrist. After many different sizing and moving the clasp around, I never could make it work. This was odd because I am use to wearing big watches all day long like my many 44mm Panerai’s and even my Omega POC Master Chronometer that is even bigger than the new DSSD. I find the thickness of the DSSD is greatly over exaggerated as the thickest part is in the middle of the domed crystal so it’s not like the entire watch is thick. I also find the larger flat titanium case back feels similar to the sapphire back of my big 45mm POC. It distributes the weight better and just sits more comfortable and secure on my wrist. I don’t even wear my watches tight as one finger can easily fit between my wrist and bracelet. Honestly I wish I would have just gone for the big boy DSSD JC from the start as I loved the dial but was scared it might be too big. It isn’t. It’s frighten perfect and a magnificent alpha diver. Wrist presence is off the chart and just feels like the king of the Rolex sports watches on the wrist. It isn’t for everyone but if you can wear a AP 42 ROOC or a PM Rolex then a DSSD is easily the same size/weight feel on the wrist.

That was also my experience with the SD43 , caseback was too small for the size of the watch , JC feels way more comfortable with the bigger titanium caseback, also lug to lug on the new 12 model is shorter and easier to wear, I love mine.

Congrats! Definitely, as you put it, an “alpha dive watch”. You could most certainly also use it to club any aggressive marine wildlife if needed.

There has been a lot of questions asked about size, weight and wearability. I have worn big watches for a long time as well as a 40mm Rolex Professional model for 30 years now. I think there is a lot of misconceptions about watch sizes and how they really work in the real world.

Here is some new pics. I was shocked how “thin” the DSSD actually was. I am use to large watches and thickness has to be kept in proportion as to the over all size of the watch. 44mm is a lot bigger than 40mm so when comparing thickness, proper context seems to get lost. I believe this is because Rolex tends to be a 40mm centric world in the Professional line.

Flat case back.

If you can wear a 42mm AP ROOC, you can wear a DSSD easily.
The whole watch size perspective can be very misleading by just reading manufactures specs.
It’s really about the weight as watches in the 220 gram range are large alpha divers and solid PM models. The DSSD is actually a light weight when comparing what a Platinum 40mm Rolex weighs.

On a side note: I tried on multiple jackets and coats to see how the DSSD fits with the cuffs. Every jacket from Adidas, UA, POLO, Armani, etc to leather Harley coats easily fit the DSSD at the cuff. I knew this because none of my Panerai, Omega, etc.. models were ever a issue. I am 6’ 2” at 210lbs athletic build. I tried on my best fitted dress shirt just for fun and the DSSD also fit under the cuff. I don’t have any idea where this notion that the DSSD doesn’t fit under the cuff of shirts?? Unless they are actually wearing a Spiderman outfit, I have no idea what kind of clothing these people are wearing??

Hi Mystro
Keep your eyes open: your PO and DSSD can make a fight in the watch box at night

I hope you are not suggesting there is anything wrong with wearing my Spider-Man outfit???

And just so we are clear, I wear my Rolex on the OUTSIDE of the sleeve, otherwise it gets gummed up with web juice
