Question about Explorer 1 reference numbers
Hey guys,
I can't help but notice the new (36mm) explorer now has a reference number of 124270, as opposed to the previous generation (39mm) reference number of 214270. I find it interesting that they went back to a 1xxxxx series number from the 2xxxxx series number. I understand this is likely to align it with previous 1xxxxx generations given they are all 36mm in size. However, to go "backwards" in reference number like that and opt to change only the second digit in the reference number (114270 vs 124270) is quite interesting. Has this ever happened before in Rolex history with other models? Thanks |
