Tudor BB58 925+Gold and new Chrono impressions

Today I was given the opportunity by my awesome AD to try some of the most prominent Tudor releases of this year.


Both the 925 and the gold 58's are very well balanced and the 39mm case, although smallish by today's standards for a sports watch, it still has an elegant presence on the wrist. 


What truly makes the difference with the two pm / semi-pm offerings of the 58 line is their color. 

One has to see them in real life to fully appreciate the hues and how the light plays with the rehaut and through the crystal edges, all in combination with the hands' polished surface.

Overall, these are very legible watches (as is the GMT). The shallower rehaut as compared to the standard 41 mm BB makes for a more refined and legible face, bringing the beautifully colored dial to the forefront. 


I find the 925 to be the most elegant and under the radar of the two. The taupe color, arguably somewhat subdued, is quite versatile but imho summer / hot weather attire is its element.

The silver case is, aesthetically, pleasantly finished and the metal, being less shiny than your ordinary SS, feels smoother to the touch and to the eye.


The gold one is the flashiest of the two but the brushed case finish mutes the precious metal just enough, to suit the nature of this watch.

The choice of green color is imho very tasteful albeit somewhat limiting. I could see myself wearing that one with my winter, country attire, I think it would look amazing with my olive drab Barbour jackets and tartan accessories... 


The open display case back on both models, although it's a nice touch, leaves me rather unimpressed.


Overall, I really like both pieces but there is a problem: I can't see either as  standalone. If I were to buy the 925, I'd still want the gold one and vice versa. No way around it, period!

At the same time I find the €16K for the gold one, rather  steep.  

In this particular case, I would probably recommend going unconventional and consider purchasing BOTH. It makes much more sense that way,  if spending 20K on Tudors is your thing....


Lastly, I had the opportunity to try on the new black chrono. I don't know if they actually slimmed these down or its the bevel (ala GMT) on the underside of the case that gives the impression of a slimmer profile.

The dimensions however, appear almost identical to the BB GMT both in case thickness (including case back and crystal) and lug to lug.

Again, the dial here is the strong feature with the recessed sub dials but what I really loved is the bezel insert and the way it compliments the watche's face. 


It's size is overall on the larger side, a tad top heavy and probably not too easily wearable under a shirt cuff but someone with a flat 7,5 in wrist could still get away with it methinks....
