Sub-date delivere not as advertised
Hello everyone.
Question for the hive-mind. I bought a 40 mil submariner-date, about six years old off a well known sales forum. It was advertised as unpolished, and in very good to excellent condition, described as having been stored away. I will say the seller obtained in a trade and it wasn’t his personal watch. When I received the watch, I noticed a scratch in the crystal. I brought it to my private dealer, who is a rolex specialist, to ask about replacing crystal and he mentioned that it had been polished. Then he showed me the difference juxtapose a very good condition, exact same model. I could actually see (when placed side-by-side) that the step on the clasp had lost a little detail, as well as the flank on the case where it meets case top, a slight amount of rounding. Additionally, the cyclops window is different, and the bezel has a slightly different action. His opinion is that it was an inexpensive replacement crystal. He also said they can restore the detail, but I’m not sure about the clasp. The time grapher shows it is working well at 28,000. So all this for some extra money, of course. My question to you all is: Does anyone have this experience with this and what would you do going forward in this case? This is a new one for me. Thanks |
