Tag Link vs Daytona SS

My wife gave me a Tag Heuer Link for my retirement last year and after wearing a Timex for many years I realized how special it was to wear quality timepiece.
I enjoyed the Tag so much I decided this week (after a lot of research) to purchased another quality watch and that was a Rolex Daytona SS.
The Daytona SS is a beautiful watch but is a little smaller and a little plainer than the Tag Link. I absolutely love it though and I had to convince my wife that I would not loose interest in my Tag Link. I assured her I loved my Tag and would never toss it aside. At this point it is still my favorite and its actually on my wrist now.
I was sitting around last night admiring both watches and I had to wonder why the Daytona SS was $8000 more expensive than my Tag Link. After all the Tag was gold/SS and a very beautiful watch and the Daytona SS is a little less striking and is all SS with no gold. I don't know how the movements compare in quality.
As a person who knows very little about watches I am wondering why the big difference in price ? I suppose its like buying a BMW and a Ford, BMW's are a more expensive automobile and you pay a premium for the BMW name.

When trying to decide what Rolex I would purchase I heard that the Daytona SS was a little less available than other Rolex's because Rolex controls the number they give to AD's each year. I wonder what would happen to the value of a Daytona SS if Rolex didn't control the numbers and they were sold like any other Rolex ? Would the value drop significantly or would it hold its value ? Is the price of these watches being kept artificially high because of Rolex limiting quantities ?
Is my SS Daytona worth $8000 more than my Tag Link ? I hope someboby can give me a good reason why it is.
