Dogs
One of my biggest gripes is doggie doo. Turds. Crap. The Dutch are animal lovers. Dogs are especially popular as every Tom, Dick and Harry (and their wives) seems to own at least one. Man’s best friend. And I agree. Owning a pet makes one live longer and it relieves stress. Good for them, I say. But dogs have to eat and what goes in has to come out again. And out it comes! The revolting brown (and sometimes other coloured) goo is everywhere and the owners (not all) couldn’t care less.
Although there are some laws in place that forces the owner to carry a bag and clean up after the dog, people don’t give a sh*t about it. And where are the police when you need them? I once caught a woman with a big Alsatian in front of my shed. (Most Dutch apartments have rows of small sheds in a community area. This is where you can keep your bikes and other stuff). It was squatted down to take the ‘stance’. I asked her what the hell she was doing in front of my shed. But it was as if I summoned a demon! She cursed like a bosun and if her wishes had come true I wouldn’t be writing this. And the dog dumped his heavy load. Dang! I waited ‘till she left with the dog, took a shovel from the shed, scooped up the ‘treat’ and followed her from a distance to her house. After she shut the front door behind her I whacked the ‘treat’ against that same door. Revenge.
