16710 GMT-II = Entry Level Rolex?

So recently I just bought a 16710 GMT-II. All my co-workers are telling me I am an idiot for paying $4,000 for a watch buying a Rolex. Of course I'm sure a lot of people can relate to this how they tell me "it's just a watch, to tell time. There's no point in buying a $4,000 watch." I told them if I re-sell it, I could make some of my money back and they say that if I re-sell it, I would only get like $1,000 back because it would be USED and no one would want to pay thousands of dollars for it being used and worn and it just depreciates just like cars. Then he proceeds to say "If I wanted to buy a Rolex I can, but why would anybody spend that much on a watch? I rather look at my bank account and see $10,000 in it rather than seeing only $5,000.. What purpose do you do with that watch? Just flash it around! Yeah! Rolex! But look at your bank account you got $5,000 instead of 10 grand"

Then they go on saying I should've bought a Tag Heuer and says Link series or Monaco look way better than the GMT-II. They tell me the GMT-II is an "entry level Rolex" and it's a 5 year old Watch, If I were to buy a Submariner then at least that would've been a 'higher model.' Then they compare it to saying "It's like buying an entry level old BMW 3 series... It's for people who wish they could buy a real BMW but can't afford it so they get the crappiest one available just to say they drive a BMW"

I'm gonna need a little bit of help here guys, I am just not sure on how to stick it to them and I really want to defend Rolex. Maybe I just bought the wrong watch and I should've bought the Sub instead
