Warranty tranferability?
Hi all,
I recently bought my first Rolex Daytona pre-owned, from an authorized dealer. I'm thrilled with the purchase, as it is a model I've had my eyes on for awhile. The original owner only had it for a short time before trading it in for another watch. As such, there is still substantial time left on the original Rolex warranty. The AD sent the watch to me with the original warranty card (original owner's name on it). I called the dealer to ask about this and they told me that the original warranty card should not have been sent to me. They said that I should send it back to them so that they can return it to Rolex, who will then issue a new card with my name on it. Does this sound right? I've heard that the original owner's warranty card can't be changed or replaced, and that Rolex won't honor the warranty for anyone other than the original owner. I've also heard that RSCs will occasionally service a pre-owned watch under the original warranty as long as the new owner has the original warranty card. Alternatively, I've heard horror stories about an RSC confiscating a watch that has a new owner, but a warranty card from a previous owner because they think it might be stolen. So, in short, does anyone have experience with buying a pre-owned Rolex from and AD that is still under warranty and how the warranty transfer is handled vis a vis the warranty card, service under warranty, etc.? Thanks! |
