First of all I cant comment on sensors.. I haven't migrated to digital yet.
There sure is a 'Leica look'. Its basically a fingerprint...just like nikkors render images differently than Canons .. same as Kodachrome's red bias vs Velvia' green bias.
There is a lot of confusion out there between 'Lecia look' and 'Leica glow'.
The Glow look is basically spherical aberration (flaw) of the lens design by Mandler in the 50s/60s which gives a very desirable look especially when shooting portraits.
