The perfect Sub for me :)
Well, I've been on a horological journey for a while and I think I've finally found my perfect watch. I've had several Rolexes over the past several years and every one of them lacked something for me. I really have a dislike for the 'super case', I think the proportions are all wrong and they look goofy to me (except for the DSSD but it's too big for me). I also dislike the old style 'tuna can' bracelets... not only do they pull my arm hair out but they sound cheap and feel cheap as they are hollow. The clasp has no real on the fly adjustment either. In my quest for my perfect watch I came to the conclusion that I had to meld old and new. After getting over the sticker shock (not to mention finding one!) of the glidelock clasp and bracelet I decided I had to have one to make my 16610LV complete.
There is just something about the original LV that I LOVE - the properly proportioned case, the maxi dial (which looks even larger in the non super case) and that rich green bezel that shimmers and changes shades depending on the light. Now that the LV and the glidelock have been mated, I can say that I have created a winner that feels great on the wrist. I can say that it is the solid band and clasp that make the new watches feel so solid and substantial - the older LV feels much like that now because of this band. In short, the glidelock clasp is by far the best watch clasp ever created IMO Anyone who likes the older subs this is an amazing upgrade! It is worth the price of admission (at least to me) and puts the feel of the watch in a different league. Anyway, a few pics. |
