Regulating a watch

I'm wondering why my sub is loosing seconds a day. I just got back from a trip
on thursday and reset it using time.gov. On friday I was -5 and today I'm -7.
I know if you lay the watch on it's side you'll loose time and face up you'll gain.
I've been laying mine face up for a while now and it still is loosing.
So my question is: after it is regulated how should we store our watches when not wearing them so as to keep a consistent time? I don't have a watch winder. Thanks guys.
