NYC RSC won't change my dial!

Greetings Forum,

Dropped off my 18038 Day-Date for a long overdue service/refinish at the NYC Service Center today.

I inquired with the service consultant about replacing the current Black, Stick Marker dial with a White, Roman-Numeral dial. She departed to the service area and emerged a few mins later saying the only White dial they could offer me was another Stick-Marker dial. Something about they'll only offer whatever was an original dial option for that model was said. Does this sound/seem correct?

For $600 plus another $150 for new hands (and they keep the orig dial), you'd think I could get what I want?

My repair estimate is due tmrw. I'd appreciate any/all forum feedback as to how best to proceed.

Thanks!
Tom
