Where do i start?

I bought a Cartier for my 30th birthday (16 years ago) and have worn it most days since. Style and taste's change over the years and i always longed to own a Rolex as imo it was top of the list of wearable, quality watches. The Cartier was a great, loyal friend but it was time to move on...

I started my research on Rolex models and stumbled across this forum. I lurked for 2 days, saw it was a welcoming crowd and then joined up and posted.

I asked for advice and got it. And got more and more
Knowing i would only make 1 purchase, i wanted it to be right and a daily wearer that i could use in the gym etc..
Narrowed my list down to sub date/dssd blue/ gmt/ daytona. Went to an AD who had none for me to try in SS but in PM. Made my decision hard as i wanted to see and try actual models.

I went to another AD (after more great advice on here) and tried a few of my choice on. Unfortunately i could not buy but it gave me 'food for thought' on what i wanted as a daily wearer. i tried the daytona, dssd and gmt. The dssd was too heavy for me. Liked the daytona but face was too small on my wrist. Still no sub to try.

I rang them chasing up and was told i could go on a list for my preferred choice, pay a 10% deposit and be mr september on the list. I paid the deposit, but rung another AD in Hyde Park, London thinking they must get the biggest quantities in. Spoke to a really helpful guy who said he may have one in a month. He rings me a week later saying he has one for me.

So, if i have not lost you yet with my ramblings, i will continue!

I ring back the dealer i paid a deposit and told them another dealer has one for me. They offered me a refund but 'thought' they might have one coming in this week and i could get that. I decided to stay with them and this week received calls from 3 different staff members saying it was in for collection!

I went yesterday after work. None of the assistants i had spoken with were there and when i went in I was immediately asked if i had come to collect a serviced watch. I replied that i had come to buy my first rolex! The girl serving was not going to get qny commission so remained standing whilst i sat at a table. She wanted me out quick!
Whilst her colleague went to the safe she asked me for payment. I said no until i had tried and inspected the watch. First thing i did was check the cyclops and slowly enjoyed every moment looking over my new watch. I made her add and then remove links and after paying, i asked her to go through exactly what i was getting. I asked her to change the outer box as it was marked and to remove and show me the guarantee (so i could check was first owner and dated correctly). I then asked for the 'coffin' travel case and the bezel protector. She was pretending not to be irritated but i wanted to know i had everything.

I had taken a supermarket carrier bag with me so i was not walking around london holding any sort of jeweller / rolex bag. On my train journey back i felt conscious of it and it was not even on my wrist!
My drive home was full of doubt and regret. Should i have bought it? Why spend more on a watch than my car is worth? What about my eldest going to University this coming year and so on!

My wife was waiting at home and looked at my wrist saying "where is it". I told her my doubts PPS (Post Purchase Syndrome) to which she replied that I had saved and worked for it and should have something I wanted for once. She is a great wife and i agreed. Out the box it came and WOW i loved it even more.

We went out for dinner with our 3 kids. I can not tell you what i ate or how much it cost. I only had eyes for one thing. Ladies and gentlemen, may i introduce you to my new watch...
