Problem with a pre-owned DJ 16220 I bought.

I originally posted this in the vintage section, but since technically a 16220 is not vintage, and also to reach a broader audience, I'm reposting here. I have a problem and I would like to know what you guys would suggest I do. I bought a 1999 DJ from a seemingly reputable dealer in Germany (I'm in The Netherlands). The watch comes with a service box and all papers and it is in excellent, hardly worn, unpolished condition. But it arrived dead. No shaking or manual winding starts it. Even after many turns of manual winding the feel does not get any stiffer, so my initial guess is a broken mainspring. I talked to the seller and he claims that he checked it and it worked perfectly when he sent it, and gives me three options: 1) Clearly, I can send it back for a refund. 2) Send back to him for repair and he will send it back to me in working condition. He covers the costs of shipping both ways. But it is clear that he will just replace the mainspring if that is the reason for the fault. In this case his original 12 months warranty still stands. 3) Take to my local independent guy for repair. I checked with him and he will charge me 275 euros for a service (includes the mainspring) with his (local to me) 12 months warranty. In this case the seller agrees to cover half of it. Now, what would you do ? Thanks for the support to a fellow addict. |
