Officer down, El Paso County SO
Deputy Sheriff Peter Herrera died yesterday of injuries sustained March 22, when he was shot after pulling over a vehicle in San Elizario.
Deputy Herrera stopped a vehicle near the corner of Chicken Ranch Road and Socorro Road. He approached the car and asked the driver to step out. The driver fired at least 12 shots while seated in the vehicle, striking Deputy Herrera multiple times. He and a vehicle passenger then fled the scene on foot. They were apprehended nearby by responding officers. A civilian and responding Deputies attended to Deputy Herrera. He was transported to a local hospital in critical condition, where he died days later from his wounds. Godspeed my brother, may you Rest In Peace.
