Deputy Sheriff Brian Ishmael was shot and killed today while responding to a call for service in the area of Sand Ridge Road and Mount Aukum Road in the rural Somerset community.

Several subjects opened fire on Deputy Ishmael and a ride-along who was with him. Deputy Ishmael was killed and the ride-along was wounded.

Two men were taken into custody near the scene and additional subjects remain at large.

Deputy Ishmael had served with the El Dorado County Sheriff's Office for four years and had previously served with the Placerville Police Department.
