I think it's not the protrusion that makes it uncomfortable, it's the diameter and conical shape of the caseback. SD43 is a heavy watch and weight being distributed in a smaller area makes the overall feeling of discomfort for some. DSSD on the other hand, even if it is heavier, will feel more comfortable since weight is distributed to a larger area.

Having said that, I think an owner just needs to keep wearing it to adapt and get used to the feel since it's a gorgeous watch.
